Kansas City Mayor Offers to Officiate Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s Wedding Amid Engagement Speculation
If Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce decide to get married after the 2025 Super Bowl, Quinton Lucas — the mayor of Kansas City, Missouri — offered up his services as the officiant.
“I am excited to officiate the wedding,” Quinton, 40, laughed while appearing on CNN News Central on Friday, February 7, even though Taylor, 35, and Travis, 35, have yet to announce an engagement after a year and a half of dating.
“That would be the biggest job I could ever have. Forget before the mayor. You’re the officiant for Travis [Kelce] and Taylor [Swift]. It would be a bigger wedding than Princess Diana and Prince Charles. It would be huge,” he gushed.
When Quinton was asked by the show’s hosts if he had any inside knowledge about the power couple tying the knot, he replied, “I have no special intel other than the fact that after the AFC Championship Game here in Kansas City, I was on the field and standing around. Then, a swarm of a hundred press [and] Travis and Taylor come by. I get bowled out of the way.”
The power couple reunited on the field at Arrowhead Stadium on January 26, following the Chiefs’ win over the Buffalo Bills. The team earned a spot in the 2025 Super Bowl in New Orleans, Louisiana, on February 9, where they’ll go head-to-head against the Philadelphia Eagles in hopes of achieving an NFL first: three Super Bowl wins in a row.
The mayor predicted the Chiefs are going to win and Taylor is going to get plenty of attention, adding, “I know they are a huge story after the game. During the game, I think we’ll get some good attention and a good W this week.”
Taylor and Travis’ love story began and blossomed in Kansas City. The Ohio native attended one of the pop superstar’s Eras tour shows at Arrowhead Stadium in July 2023. Later that month, Travis recalled during his “New Heights” podcast how he tried and failed to give Taylor a friendship bracelet with his phone number on it.
The revelation got Taylor’s attention and the two started hanging out shortly thereafter. Their romance privately grew before the “Cruel Summer” singer first appeared at a Chiefs home game on September 24, 2023, alongside Travis’ beloved mom, Donna Kelce.
The “Anti-Hero” singer called Travis putting himself out there publicly “metal as hell,” during her December 2023 Time Person of the Year profile.
“So, we actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew, which I’m grateful for, because we got to get to know each other. By the time I went to that first game, we were a couple. I think some people think that they saw our first date at that game? We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date,” she told the publication.
Whether or not Taylor and Travis get engaged following Super Bowl LIX, the football player’s dad has big hopes for the couple as they finally get to enjoy an extended period of time without work commitments.
“I think, you know, once we get past the Super Bowl, I think it’s going to be a very good period of time for the two of them,” Ed Kelce said during an appearance on Australia’s Today on Thursday, February 6. “Without the NFL season, without the Eras tour. Just them alone really connecting more. I think that can only be a good thing.”
