Kelly Clarkson Reflects on Major Wardrobe Malfunction Where Her Skirt Fell Off: ‘I Was Commando’
Kelly Clarkson is stronger after experiencing an embarrassing wardrobe malfunction.
The talk show host, 42, discussed clothing mishaps with her Kelly Clarkson Show guests Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren during the April 11 episode. After Nick, 32, described an incident where his pants split during a rehearsal, Kelly shared the story of a time when her skirt fell off during a performance. Unfortunately, she wasn’t wearing any underwear when it happened.
“I had something happen on tour once where my skirt, the clip broke and it dropped, and I dropped so fast,” the “Breakaway” hitmaker said. “Look, long story short, I was commando. And I was like, it was a long skirt, and something happened to where it was like, ‘Oh, OK.’”
Kelly continued, “It’s TMI for America. … And I was like, the one night I don’t have … And I dropped to the floor, like, so fast. Picked it up, somebody had to run out. And it was like, during a show.”
Though the “Since U Been Gone” singer admitted that it was “really unfortunate,” especially considering that she stepped on glass that same night, she rolled with the punches and kept on singing.
“It was like, ‘What is wrong? Who did I piss off?’ … It happens, though, and you just have to keep swimming,” she said before apologizing to Nick for the incident with his pants.
Kelly has dealt with her fair share of wardrobe malfunctions throughout her career. During an October 2023 episode of her talk show, the former Voice coach recalled a clothing incident she experienced while filming the music video for “Since U Been Gone” back in 2004. She explained to guest Kyle Richards that she had been wearing a pair of “tight leather pants,” and the director asked her to squat down.
“He was like, ‘Go down and pop back up!’ I was like, ‘Oh, OK, cool.’ And I went down and just, ‘Whoops!’” she said.
Unfortunately, this was another time when Kelly had decided to go commando for the day. She revealed that she had turned to the drummer on set and said, “Oh s–t, that’s a lot of moon, man. I’m sorry.”
Earlier in 2023, Kelly performed a show at an event in Minnesota and accidentally flashed the crowd.
“I think my boob’s showing, hold on,” the American Idol winner told the audience, as seen in footage captured by fans and shared online at the time. “Yup, sure is,” someone in the crowd could be heard yelling back.
Kelly ran off the stage to adjust the plunging neckline on her dress. When she returned, she joked, “What kind of show is this? I was told you wanted a really fun show. I’m so sorry. I think my hair got stuck in the tape. We’re good.”
She continued, “Look, they’re not big enough to make noise. Which I don’t mind. OK, we’re just gonna keep the ladies in there. Just to keep it a family-friendly show. My bad!”
Kelly apologized for the interruption again at the end of the concert, telling fans, “Thank you so much! I’m sorry for the show. Have a great night, y’all!”
