Khloe Kardashian Reveals the ‘Moment’ She Knew Her Marriage to Lamar Odom Was Over

Khloé Kardashian has been open about the ups and downs she experienced with ex-husband Lamar Odom, and she recently revealed the “moment” she knew their marriage was over.

“I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction,” Khloé, 40, told motivational speaker Mel Robbins during the Wednesday, January 29, episode of her “Khloé in Wonderland” podcast. “And I knew that his addiction always heightened — he was in the NBA — and his addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season, cause idle time is the devil’s playground.”

She then recalled a time when Lamar, 45, was asked to join Team USA. “I was begging, ‘Please, please go to Team USA’ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘You can’t want it more than I do,’” she said.

“I remember when he said, ‘You can’t want it more than me’ and ‘I don’t want it’ — it was so profound,” Khloé said of the conversation. “It’s so silly, cause I know that. But I wanted it so badly, because I wanted to help him and to get him to feel the motivation and feel good, but he just wasn’t in that place.”

She explained that the conversation ultimately led her to make the decision to end their marriage. “It took me a long time to get to, then I had to file for divorce,” the Kardashians star said. “That was a very pivotal moment in my life because I remember that statement being like…”Yeah, you’re right. I can’t want your life more than you.’”

Khloé and Lamar got married in 2009 following a whirlwind romance. They hit many roadblocks during their marriage amid Lamar’s struggles with addiction, while they were also faced with several cheating rumors.

She filed for divorce in 2013, though their proceedings were put on hold when Lamar was found unresponsive at a Nevada brothel following a near-fatal overdose in 2015. Their divorce was finally signed off in 2016.

Later on in the episode, Khloé pointed out that she was “so young” during her marriage to Lamar and believed she could change him. Now that she’s had time to grow up and mature, the Keeping Up With the Kardashians alum said she’s “so much better at” realizing she can’t change people now.

“I think maybe because I went through that experience [with Lamar] — that I, for me, I’m so good at it,” she said.

While Khloé seems to have left her marriage to Lamar in the past, fans will get to see the pair reunite during the upcoming season 6 of her family’s Hulu reality show. In the season’s trailer, Khloé told sister Kim Kardashian and mom Kris Jenner that she had recently seen her ex-husband.

“This is insane,” Kim, 44, replied, while Kris, 69, emotionally added that Lamar was “the love of [Khloé’s] life.”

The clip then showed Lamar entering Khloé’s house with a bouquet of roses. Khloé then said that she didn’t “know this person anymore,” seemingly referring to her ex.
