Lionel Richie Recalls Giving Love Advice to Daughter Sofia: ‘Just Tell Me Whatever’s on Your Mind’

Father knows best? Lionel Richie revealed that when it comes to giving his children, Nicole Richie, Miles Richie and Sofia Richie, love advice, there’s a big difference between sons and daughters! “Boys, you know, are basic knuckleheads. So when they come to you, you know what that’s all about because you were one of them and probably still are,” the American Idol judge, 70, told Entertainment Tonight. 

“When it comes down to the girls, girls can shock because they’re open about their lives now,” Lionel continued on Wednesday, February 19. “I remember going to my girls and saying, ‘OK, just tell me whatever’s on your mind, run it by me and I can help you.’ They’ve brought me some stories some days and I went, ‘I don’t want to know about this.’”

Thankfully, the “All Night Long” artist discovered the perfect solution — and he’s sharing it with dads everywhere! “So all I can say to all the guys out there who have girls, just call your wife in the room and say, ‘Honey, you handle that,'” Lionel quipped. “And as far as the boys are concerned, just tell them, ‘Don’t be stupid.’ But it is a challenge, especially now with social media.”

Considering Nicole, 38, is happily married with a family of her own and Sofia, 21, is seriously dating reality TV personality Scott Disick, it looks like Lionel’s methods have been successful! In fact, it’s only a matter of time before Scott, 36, officially becomes a member of the Richie family.
