Lizzo Reveals What She Eats in a Day as a ‘Former Vegan’ After 60-Lb. Weight Loss
Lizzo shared with fans what she eats in a day after no longer adhering to a vegan diet amid her weight loss journey.
The “Truth Hurts” singer, 36, shared an Instagram video on Thursday, October 10, showing off her new favorite food and drink items and how they’ve impacted her health.
“What I eat in a day as a former vegan who added protein to her diet,” Lizzo – whose real name is Melissa Jefferson – began, telling fans that her reintroduction to protein started in Japan while drinking lemon water. She then showing a plate of egg white cups, cauliflower hashbrowns and fruit.
Lizzo called the Japanese diet “one of the healthiest diets in the world and it has some of my favorite foods.” After traveling to the country, she said she was “in awe of how clean and delicious their food was.”

The Grammy winner “indulged in fresh sushi, fluffy egg and I was amazed at how good my body felt the next day.”
That led Lizzo on a journey to figure out how animal proteins affected her body. She discovered that the proteins helped her “have more energy, lose weight and helped with my mental fog.”
“I do believe the vegan diet is the healthiest diet,” the “About Damn Time” singer said, confessing she “aspired to one day be a “raw alkaline vegan, Until then, this is the diet that’s helped me reach my goals and helped me feel good in my body.”
Throughout the video, Lizzo showed off various items in her new daily diet, including a buffalo chicken lettuce wrap, grilled chicken with asparagus and carrots, as well as okra water and homemade peach tea as beverages.

Fans had mixed reviews about her dietary change in the comments. “You look amazing. Eat what makes your body and mind function the best,” one person cheered, while another added, “You look soooo healthy and beautiful.”
However, other fans were somewhat critical, with one writing, “There’s no such thing as a ‘former vegan’. You were plant-based and now you’re not. Simple. Veganism isn’t a diet.” Another user told Lizzo, “I don’t understand how you ‘added protein to your diet’ or you ‘reintroduced protein.’ Vegans eat protein.”
A music industry source exclusively told Life & Style in September that Lizzo shed more than 60 pounds from her 5-foot-10 frame. After once tipping the scales at 308 pounds, she’s now said to be down to a relatively svelte 240 pounds.
“I’ve been methodical about losing weight very slowly,” Lizzo told The New York Times in March. “I’m taking some time every day to put love into my body. There’s never a day when I regret taking a walk or doing some Pilates.”
During her weight loss journey, Lizzo shot down claims she’s used Ozempic, a semaglutide commonly prescribed to adults with diabetes, which has been used for weight loss in recent years.
“When you finally get Ozempic allegations after five months of weight training and calorie deficit,” the Detroit, Michigan, native wrote in a video shared via Instagram on September 20.
Lizzo included a screenshot of one social media user asking in a previous post, “Did she use Ozempic or did she snort coke?” responding to the comment, “Why do u follow me?”
