ReportMeghan Markle Asks Prince Harry To Snub Traditional Boxing Day Hunt
Prince Harry and his new wife Meghan Markle have definitely made their mark recently with their plans to usher in a new, modern era for royalty. The Duchess of Sussex has been in her position for under a year and she’s already been changing the way people look at royal protocol and storied customs. With the Boxing Day pheasant hunt just around the corner, she supposedly plans to continue to shift tradition by requesting that Prince Harry not participate, according to the Mirror, and it could be adding to the supposed “rift” between the royal brothers.
Harry and his brother Prince William have been a part of the Boxing Day pheasant hunt for more than 20 years, so the disruption from their familial traditions isn’t going unnoticed. “In his mind, William sees this as another concerning example of his younger brother being pulled away from his family by his new wife,” a royal insider told the Mirror. “Harry’s always loved hunting and it has provided them with a great chance to bond as brothers. But now it looks like Harry’s shooting days are over. It’s the latest point of contention between the Princes after a testing time in their relationship.”
Because Meghan is adamant against fur and “bloodsports,” it looks like Harry will be spending the day with his pregnant wife instead of participating in the traditional hunt at Sandringham, despite his reputation as “fine marksman.” A source that spoke with the Mirror expressed disappointment at Harry’s choice to not join in. “He hardly ever misses the shoot but he loves her so much,” the source said of Harry’s decision.
Even Prince Charles and William’s five-year-old son, George, will reportedly be in attendance, but unfortunately, it looks as though the royal family is going to have to do without the Sussexes for this particular Boxing Day tradition.
