Miley Cyrus Performs Liam Hemsworth Breakup Song ‘Slide Away’ for the First Time at VMAs and We’re Shaking
The Video Music Awards are known for being monumental for Miley Cyrus, and once again, she did not disappoint. The 26-year-old took the VMAs stage on Monday, August 26, and performed her latest single, “Slide Away,” which hints at her past relationship with Liam Hemsworth.
Based on the emotional performance, it’s safe to say this tune is basically “Wrecking Ball” 2.0. This is also the first time Miley gave a performance since news broke that she and the Australian native, 29, broke up after 10 years together. They spent eight months married.
Liam filed for divorce on August 21, and it looks like Miley wasn’t expecting this to happen so soon. “Miley is shocked and hurt that Liam filed for divorce so quickly,” a source told In Touch. “While she’s moved on, she expected him to wait so they could both make the decision together. The bottom line is, Liam has had enough of Miley’s attention-seeking ways and wants out.”
Once Miley was seen having a Hot Girl Summer with Brody Jenner’s ex Kaitlynn Carter earlier this month, the actor apparently hit his breaking point. “Liam hit the roof when photos emerged of Kait and Miley hooking up,” another insider revealed. “It was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”
The following day, Miley took to Twitter to reassure fans that cheating had nothing to do with why the former couple called it quits. “But the truth is, once Liam and I reconciled, I meant it, and I was committed,” she said. “There are NO secrets to uncover here. I’ve learned from every experience in my life. I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring. I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP.”
“I can admit to a lot of things, but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating. Liam and I have been together for a decade,” she said. “I’ve said it before, and it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”
