Prince William and Kate Middleton Have ‘a Lot of Rules’ for Their Kids’ Use of Social Media

Prince William and Princess Kate may be active on social media, but they’re vigilant to make sure their kids don’t fall into the trappings of the current digital age and have strict regulations to keep them grounded, a source tells Life & Style exclusively.

“They’d love to be able to totally shield them from social media, but the older they get, the harder that is. So instead, they’ve decided on a lot of rules,” the insider explains.

“First thing is they aren’t allowed to have their own accounts. They have shared family accounts that they are all logged into that are strictly for viewing content,” the source says of the setup William, 42, and Kate, 42, have for kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

The children are “totally banned from posting and only follow accounts that have been approved by mom and dad,” according to the insider.

Soccer-loving George, 11, likes to keep up on stars of the sport online, while Charlotte, 9, “has different kids’ cooking accounts and some equestrian and gymnastic accounts,” the source reveals. “Plus, they have their favorite kids YouTube stars. It’s all very innocent and not anything that can be toxic for them.”

William and Kate only allow their kids to be on social media for “30 minutes a day” and that’s “only after they’ve done all their homework and chores,” the insider explains.

“Screen time in general is very limited for them. They have their shows they like to watch but they’re encouraged to do other things like playing outside and reading,” says the source. “William and Kate know they can’t protect them forever but they’re very keen to teach them healthy habits and keep them safe for as long as they can.”

The Princess of Wales in particular is a huge fan of making sure her kids spend plenty of time outdoors, as she’s such a fan of being amid nature.

Kate explained that she is happiest when “I’m with my family outside in the countryside, and we’re all filthy dirty,” during a 2020 appearance on the “Happy Mum, Happy Baby” podcast.

A source told Closer in May how the princess puts a huge priority on George, Charlotte and Louis spending plenty of time outside instead of indoors in front of a computer screen while at the family’s Norfolk, England, country home, Anmer Hall.

“Every summer Kate tries to make sure that the kids are outside as much as possible,” said the insider, who added that the loving mom asked the children to come up with fun activities they can do as a family. From hiking and horseback riding to baking cupcakes, the kids were full of ideas. “There are guidelines, of course, but Kate thinks giving them a say will make it more memorable.”

“The summer is when Kate just wants the kids to be kids and get to be a little freer,” the insider added.

When the princess announced in September that she had completed preventative chemotherapy following her cancer diagnosis, she shared a video that highlighted her time with her family over the summer months.

It showed William, Kate and their kids going through hikes in the woods, having a card game during an outdoor picnic and playing a table game indoors with her parents, Michael and Carole Middleton.
