Savannah Chrisley Reveals Mom Met BF Robert Shiver in Prison, Dad Todd Hasn’t ‘Been as Open’

Savannah Chrisley revealed her boyfriend, Robert Shiver, recently met her mom, Julie Chrisley, but her father, Todd Chrisley, “has not been as open.”

Robert, 40, appeared as a guest on Savannah’s podcast, “Unlocked,” on Tuesday, January 7, and the two opened up about the unusual family dynamics with both of her parents behind bars after they were convicted of tax evasion and fraud.

“I think that’s probably rightfully so. Right?” Robert said to Savannah, 27, regarding Todd’s stance. “It’s his daughter, you know? Who’s this guy? He’s got all this baggage. You know? And Todd has a tendency to be vocal on certain situations and issues. I don’t know if there’s many situations where nobody knows how he feels because they always know how he feels.”

However, Savannah admitted that the fact that Robert is over a decade older and is divorced with three children of his own might have played into the fact that Todd, 55, has been reluctant about connecting with Robert.

“I don’t think anyone ever looks at life, and they’re like, ‘Oh, I want my kid to marry someone that’s 12 years older, that’s been divorced, that has kids.’ Like that’s not what you would want for your daughter,” Savannah said.

Robert seemingly had a much easier time getting to know Julie, 52.

“I have met your mother one time. Incredible human being,” Robert told Savannah. “Me and Julie, we get along great.”

Even though Robert and Julie’s meeting went well, Savannah confessed that it was “difficult” for her because he wasn’t meeting “the best version” of her mom.

“That was really difficult for me. You’re going to visit her in a prison, and dear god, I don’t think you’ve ever thought, ‘Oh, I’m gonna go see my girlfriend’s mom in prison, meet her for the first time.’ Like, not the image anyone had ever imagined,” Savannah explained.

Robert said that he was “just open” about the idea of meeting Julie and had tried to stay away from negativity spewed on the internet.

“It’s so easy to talk tough behind the keyboard. You know?” Robert continued. “And it’s so easy to read comments, and that’s why I just stay away from all of that stuff because all you’re going to do is go down a rabbit hole.”

He added, “I’m going into this open. Like, this is somebody that you love. So, I went in with an open mind, and it didn’t disappoint and I had a great time with her. I think she laughed a ton.”

In August 2019, Julie and Todd were indicted and found guilty on 12 counts of tax evasion, wire and bank fraud and conspiracy. Todd was sentenced to 12 years and Julie was sentenced to seven, but their sentences were later reduced in September 2023. Julie is serving her time at the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, while Todd is at the Federal Penitentiary Center in Pensacola, Florida.

In 2023, Todd criticized FPC Pensacola when he called the facility “disgustingly filthy.”

“The food is literally, I’m not exaggerating … the food is dated, and it’s out of date by, at minimum, a year,” Todd said during an interview with News Nation’s Chris Cuomo. “It’s a year past expiration. And they are literally starving these men to death here. These men are getting, I don’t know, they are getting a thousand calories a day.”
