Taylor Swift Surprises Crowd by Calling Sabrina Carpenter for an Unexpected Performance

The real Sabrina Carpenter can and did come to the phone! Taylor Swift gave her fellow pop star a call on stage during night 2 in New Orleans, and the “Taste” singer surprised the crowd by coming out on stage.

“I think tonight I’m going to do something completely different, which is that I’m going to sing a song that’s not mine, but it’s somebody that I really love,” Taylor, 34, told the crowd of 65,000 in Caesars Superdome on October 26 as she began strumming a few lines from “Espresso,” one of Sabrina’s hits. “So you really love that song as much as I do? I know I’m just going on a tangent because I love my friend and I’m just so proud of Sabrina and the year she’s had.”

The crowd went wild and Taylor grabbed a phone from the audience.

“Hey!” Taylor said as she held a finger up to the crowd to be quiet while she made the call from the cell phone.

Sabrina, 25, sounded confused before asking the “Karma” singer what she was doing.

“I’m really somewhere very loud,” Taylor continued. “I’m actually performing in New Orleans, I’m on the Eras tour. So, like, I just wanted to call and tell you that I just sang a little bit of ‘Espresso,’ and they sang every single word so loud, and I just wanted to say we all love you. We all love you so much.”

The “Please, Please, Please” artist was shocked as she asked, “What?”

When Taylor asked Sabrina what she was doing, Sabrina said that she was “on a rollercoaster” and she was “somewhere where everyone is screaming. It’s so loud.”

“That’s so weird. I’m somewhere where people are screaming really loud, too. Here’s the thing, Sabrina, is there any chance that you could get off the roller coaster you’re on and, like, put on some clothes and just, like, come down to the stadium real quick? Ballpark, how long would that take you?” Taylor said as the crowd quickly caught on to what was happening and began to ramp up their screams.

Sabrina replied, “It would probably take me like … five seconds.”

The “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” artist handed her cell phone off and Sabrina strutted on stage in her signature white babydoll-style dress. The two then launched into a mashup of Sabrina’s “Espresso” and “Please, Please, Please” with Taylor’s “Is It Over Now?”

This wasn’t Sabrina’s first rodeo with the Eras tour, though. The former Girl Meets World star was the opening act for Taylor’s shows in Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Japan, Australia and Singapore. While in Australia, about an hour before the concert was set to begin, a huge storm hit. Severe lightning led to the crowd being evacuated for a short time while Sabrina’s opening act had to be cut. However, Taylor still treated her fans to a performance with Sabrina as she brought her out on stage to sing with her.
