Taylor Swift’s Engagement Ring Designer Speaks Out For the First Time
Jeweler Kindred Lubeck stopped by Town & Country’s New York offices on October 9 to reflect on the whirlwind that followed her most famous creation yet — Taylor Swift’s engagement ring.
Lubeck, 30, is the founder of Artifex Fine Jewelry, the boutique brand behind the old mine cut diamond ring that Travis Kelce used to propose to Swift in August.
Since the announcement, Lubeck says the reaction to her ring has been “totally surreal.”
“I’ve always been drawn to old mine cuts for the way they reflect light,” she told T&C Editor-in-Chief Stellene Volandes.
When it comes to designing engagement rings and choosing the right ones for couples, Lubeck says her process is deeply personal. “I want to know what’s important to them,” she explained. “Some people say, ‘If it’s a colorless diamond and it’s an oval, I’ll love it forever.’ If that’s what you want, great. But if you’re someone who doesn’t want to see your stone on someone else’s hand, an old cut is amazing for that.”
As for what’s next, Lubeck teased a bold new direction, earrings inspired by Italian architecture. “I was recently in Italy and got absolutely obsessed with door knockers,” she said.
“What if I made different pairings of colored stones and built the mechanism like a door knocker? I’m super excited to explore that — I already have some in the works.”
After Taylor Swift showed off her engagement ring from Kelce during a string of interviews promoting The Life of a Showgirl, Lubeck couldn’t contain her excitement.
On Friday, October 3, she reshared a clip of Swift, 35, on the U.K. radio show Heart Breakfast, gushing over her sparkling new ring. Lubeck captioned the Instagram Stories post simply saying, “Day made. Life made.”
In the clip, the Love Story singer revealed that she’d been a fan of Lubeck’s work for a long time before Kelce proposed.
“I had shown him a video, I just thought her stuff was so cool, I had shown him a video like a year and a half ago and he was just paying attention to everything it turns out because when I saw the ring I [gasped] … I was like, ‘I know who made this, I know who made this,’ and also, you listen to me!’ ” she said.
