Teen Mom Stars Who Were Fired or Left: Farrah, Jenelle and More

Drama! Farrah Abraham, Ryan Edwards, Jenelle Evans and David Eason are just a few Teen Mom stars who have exited the reality franchise through the years.

Farrah was first featured on the debut season of 16 & Pregnant, but news started circulating in 2017 that she was reportedly fired from Teen Mom OG. The news was confirmed one year later when an episode captured the reality mom’s tense conversation with producer Morgan J. Freeman. He called her “difficult” and gave her an ultimatum between continuing her role on Teen Mom OG or creating adult entertainment content. In the end, Farrah decided to leave Teen Mom because she thought her new career was more lucrative.

Although the Ex on the Beach star later said she wished her former cast members the best, she took to Instagram to express a bit of saltiness toward the franchise in April.

“Nothing like a great #teenmom cameo on TikTok. Maybe this is why the ratings tanked even with everyone stuck at home, sports canceled [and] CBS can’t save it,” Farrah wrote. “For all wrongfully fired who are overachievers, this is a sign others can’t grow with you [and] respect you. Cheers, moms. Thank you, next.”

The Nebraska native’s costars Catelynn and Tyler Baltierra spoke on the situation during an appearance on The Dr. Oz Show in July 2018. “I think if it’s going against what MTV believes in and that’s what they feel like they had to do, then that’s what they feel like they have to do … We have no choice in it or are a part of it,” Catelynn explained at the time.

Tyler added, “I think it’s great. I think it’s awesome. The way she decided to live, her lifestyle, it just doesn’t really mesh with the rest of the cast and what we’re trying to educate [audiences] about, it just doesn’t work. It doesn’t work very well together. … She’s not a really nice person to be around.”

However, no couple had more drama in the franchise than Jenelle and her off-and-on husband David. In February 2019, MTV cut all ties with the reality dad following a series of homophobic and transphobic tweets.

“David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV,” a spokesperson for the network said to Us Weekly at the time. “With six weeks left of production on Teen Mom 2, effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him.”

Shortly after, Jenelle issued a statement to TMZ defending her husband “David didn’t understand how offensive people would get or how Twitter even works. Now that he realizes his voice is very strong within media/tabloids he has deactivated his account. He agrees he will keep his comments to himself from now on,” she said at the time.

“David doesn’t hate people from the LGBT community. My old manager was gay and used to be one of me and David’s close friends. We attended Farrah’s birthday in Miami with a lot of LGBT people there, and he didn’t act in any type of way. We went had a good time and left. We are sorry for the comments that were made.”

Nearly one year later, Jenelle was also let go by the franchise after 10 years on the network following an incident where her husband killed their family dog. The North Carolina star later claimed in a YouTube video that her French bulldog named Nugget was “vicious” and “didn’t play nice” with her kids.

Chelsea Houska and Cole DeBoer

The OG Teen Mom 2 cast member announced her exit from the series in December 2020 after 10 seasons on MTV.

“MTV’s Teen Mom 2 has been a big part of my life for almost 11 years. After much thought and discussion with my family and friends, Cole and I have decided that this season will be our last,” she wrote via Instagram at the time. “We are forever thankful to MTV and our crew, who are like family to us. We’re parting on the best of terms and will stay in touch long after this. We’re proud to have been able to share our story and are so grateful to the fans who have followed our journey from the beginning.”

She continued, “Our next chapter in life will focus on developing our brand and taking things to the next level with new endeavors and expanding family businesses. Please tune into our last moments on the show and continue to follow along our journey on social media. We are so excited for this next phase of our lives and hope you all will be a part of it in some way!”

Bristol Palin

In April 2018, the Alaska native announced she left Teen Mom OG after just one season.
“Teen Mom OG wasn’t a fit for me, it took away my peace.. and honestly – my peace has a price tag that no one but God can afford,” she divulged via Instagram at the time. “[Money] doesn’t impress me, I don’t entertain bs, and walking away from this show allows God to rebuild me (and my little fam) in the right direction. I have love for all the girls on the show, and wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors!! xoxo, B.”

Jenelle Evans

Jenelle got the boot a year after her husband, but she told In Touch in April that she was still “in contact” with her MTV producer.
“My old producer … would ask about updates [on] my life,” she claimed at the time. “[He wanted me] to even send him videos of my daily routines with the kids in Tennessee. I was told they were thinking about putting me back on.”

Ryan Edwards and Mackenzie Standifer

Ryan was first featured on 16 & Pregnant with Maci Bookout, with whom he shares son Bentley, but he later married Mackenzie in 2017. Their exit from the franchise came on the heels of Ryan’s 2019 arrest for possession of heroin and theft, but the couple claimed a disagreement about their storyline was the reason they walked away from Teen Mom.
“The network told us they don’t want to show Ryan as a recovering addict,” Mackenzie claimed at the time. “But they did want to enter a contract with our unborn baby and have the baby film with Ryan’s parents so it would look like someone else is raising it.”
However, they were back on the show less than a year later. Following his arrest for theft services under $1,000, Ryan served three months behind bars. After his release, the case was dismissed.
In March 2021, Ryan’s parents revealed they were “let go” from the show after they had a heated fight with Maci and her husband, Taylor McKinney. Shortly after, it was rumored that Ryan and Mackenzie were also let go from the franchise. Ryan’s wife, Mackenzie, confirmed their departure from the show in a series of selfie videos posted to her Instagram Story.

“I think it’s time to address the elephant in the room, and no, we are not doing Teen Mom at this point in time,” Mackenzie said in April 2021. “We’ve been having this conversation for a long time, but it’s hard to pull the trigger on something like that. We got the phone call saying we’re not going to be doing Teen Mom anymore, and we both felt at peace.”

Ryan’s dad said the family was “let go” from MTV on March 24. While he didn’t state the exact reason for their termination, he noted Maci was “so mad” at him for claiming they hadn’t seen grandson Bentley in a month during the reunion. “We got in so much trouble,” the reality dad claimed. MTV has yet to comment on the couple’s status on the show.

Taylor Selfridge

Taylor appeared on Teen Mom OG for just a year in 2019 with boyfriend Cory Wharton and his ex, Cheyenne Floyd. She was fired after past racist tweets of hers began circulating online. “MTV strongly condemns systemic racism and stands with those raising their voices against injustice,” the network explained at the time.
Taylor responded to the situation by saying, “At the time, because I was younger, I wasn’t thinking it was anything negative. I thought, ‘Oh, well this is funny,’ or something like that, but it’s not.”

All of ‘Teen Mom 3’

Sorry, ladies! After just one season of Teen Mom 3, MTV did not renew the spinoff, which featured Mackenzie McKee, Briana DeJesus, Katie Yeager and Alexandria Sekella. Not all was lost, as Brianna later became a cast member of Teen Mom 2 and Mackenzie joined Teen Mom OG after Farrah was fired.
