Merry Christmas, Ya Filthy Animal! The Most Iconic Holiday Movie Quotes Will Have You Feeling Festive

‘Tis the season to quote Christmas movies! Home Alone, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Elf and A Christmas Story are just a few of the iconic holiday films that you’ll probably want to relive this season. Whether you’re looking for a fun Instagram caption or simply want to impress your friends and family with some movie knowledge, we put together some of the most memorable lines that are sure to put a Christmas-sized smile on your face.

We’d be lying if we said Home Alone wasn’t one of the first films that come to mind when it comes to famous holiday movie moments. From Catherine O’Hara as mom Kate realizing her son was missing and yelling “Kevin!” before falling still as a board, to “Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals,” the movie is chock full of iconic scenes. However, one moment reigns supreme: Kevin slapping his face with aftershave and screaming when it burns.

While viewers love this moment (it even became the poster of the movie) one person isn’t a fan: actor Macaulay Culkin himself! After 30 years of fans coming up to him asking him to recreate the face, he’s got a hard and fast rule: “No. Been there, done that already. I’m 37 now, OK? OK, mom?” he told Ellen DeGeneres in 2018.

In fact, the star’s not much interested in rewatching the films at all. “I’m remembering that day on set, like, how I was hiding my Pepsi behind the couch. I can’t watch it the same way other people can,” he said. “It’s background radiation at Christmastime. I’ve had people who want to sit down and watch it with me, which is both flattering and creepy.”

But not every Christmas movie star feels that way. In fact, Elf actor Will Ferrell loves rewatching the film with his family … maybe a little too much.”We have three boys. And [the presents] are opened in 12 minutes [on Christmas morning]. [So] I force them to watch Elf 10 times, 10 straight times. It’s a marathon, and then you get to open a present after.”
