What happened to Jack in Vietnam?

Jack Pearson is gone, but his story is nowhere near over. “There are so many questions with Jack: his upbringing, what happened to him in Vietnam [and] what happened to him after Vietnam,” says Milo Ventimiglia, who plays the beloved yet flawed father-of-three. “Jack is holding on to a lot. War is horrible, and if you’re right there in the middle of it to see the atrocities, you can’t not be impacted by it. I know this is an era that [the show] is excited to explore.”

According to Milo, fans will also learn more about Jack’s deceased brother, Nicky, who served in Vietnam alongside him. “Obviously a major thing happened, some trauma of some sort,” hints John Requa, one of the show’s directors. “We can’t get into the details, but clearly this looms large in the person that Jack is.”

What is Beth's story?

Over the last two seasons, we’ve learned all about Randall, and we may soon finally learn a little bit more about his wife, Beth (played by Susan Kelechi Watson). “I’m always curious as to her background. I have heard talks of meeting her family, and I know that she has sisters, like three sisters,” Susan says of her character, adding that viewers may also get to meet Beth’s mom. “That’s as much as I know so far. A lot of it isn’t written yet.”

How did Rebecca and Miguel fall in love?

Earlier this season, the show teased how the unlikely romance of Rebecca (played by Mandy Moore) and her late husband’s best friend, Miguel (played by Jon Huertas), may have begun. It turned out they reconnected on Facebook! Now fans, as well as some of the show’s stars, are dying to learn more. “I would love to know the story of Miguel and Rebecca, how it came to be,” says Sterling. The mystery won’t be addressed in Season 2, but Sterling assures viewers that everyone will eventually get answers: “I ask fans to please be patient, and in due time you will see Miguel ain’t so bad.”

Will another big character die?

Viewers shed major tears when the details of Jack’s death were finally revealed. According to Milo, they may soon be shedding even more! “You gotta start wondering if anyone else is going to die,” he recently said, causing mass chaos among fans — many fearing for fan-favorite Randall’s life.

“If Randall dies, I will die,” cried one, while another threatened to “find the writers and burn down their homes” if they kill him off. But Dan Fogelman says Randall is safe — for now. “I can assure everybody that we’re not killing Randall this season,” he says. “Everybody can relax!”
