Travis Kelce’s Ex Kayla Nicole Says Online Hate Helped Prepare Her for ‘Special Forces’
Travis Kelce’s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole revealed that the hate she received on social media amid his relationship with Taylor Swift has helped her prepare for her stint on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.
“I would say I’m the opposite of being afraid of what people are going to see. I’m actually excited for people to see us stripped down, raw, vulnerable,” Kayla, 33, told Page Six about her time on the show in an interview published on Monday, December 16. “I think people in general, the general public, need to be reminded that we’re all humans, right? We all have very real emotions. And I’m excited about that element [of] allowing us to be humans.”
Before Travis, 35, began dating Taylor, 35, in the summer of 2023, the influencer and professional athlete dated on and off for five years until they split in May 2022. In light of Travis and Taylor’s high-profile romance, Kayla has faced backlash when discussing her ex.
“God, I think that put things in full perspective, that social media is literally just that. Social media, words on the internet and experiences like this put life into perspective,” she added about the backlash. “Like, there’s people in the real world that are doing this on a daily basis to save lives. So the little tweets and the headlines could mean nothing to me when you’re put in an environment like this.”
Kayla previously opened up about the hate she has received while appearing on an October episode of the “Unapologetically Angel” podcast. “I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and just like online chaos doesn’t impact me. It does,” she told WNBA star Angel Reese. “You could go to my most recent post, and there will be people debating each other why I am worthless, and I’ll never be a talented person, and I have no career.”
“I think that there’s something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people, and it’s unfortunate, because I’ve never done anything to warrant that kind of backlash,” Kayla added.
Meanwhile, she also reflected on the split in a Special Forces teaser clip that was released in November. “Going through a public breakup, it’s been overwhelming,” she admitted in a voiceover, and she later dropped Travis’ name when her costars asked her to reveal her ex’s identity.
While things didn’t work out between Travis and Kayla, the Ohio native seems to be going strong with the “Cornelia Street” singer.
In November, an insider exclusively told Life & Style that Taylor “felt like she’s had the best year of her life.”
“Her relationship with Travis has strengthened so many parts of her and made her more confident and fearless,” the source dished. “Finding a love like this has changed Taylor.”
When she’s with Travis, Taylor “doesn’t seem so concerned with what people are or aren’t seeing.” The insider continued, “It’s refreshing for everyone to witness her being so much more relaxed and authentic.”
“Taylor’s embracing his unfiltered personality and letting loose herself more, too,” the source shared. “Everyone in her life has noticed how different she seems with Travis.”
