Travis Kelce’s Ex Kayla Nicole Name Drops NFL Star in Emotional Trailer: ‘Overwhelming’
How long has it been now? Travis Kelce‘s ex-girlfriend Kayla Nicole name dropped the NFL superstar in the teaser trailer for season 3 of Fox’s military-style competition series Special Forces.
“Wait, who’s your ex?” one contestant asked Kayla, 33, who responded in a whisper, “Travis Kelce.”
In another scene, Kayla – who is credited on the reality show as an “influencer and model” – explained, “Going through a public breakup, it’s been overwhelming,” as she’s seen with a tear running down her cheek.
Fifteen other celebs are competing with Kayla on the “world’s toughest test,” including Denise Richards, Brody Jenner and OG Bachelorette Trista Sutter. The show premieres on January 8, 2025.
Travis, 35, and Kayla broke up in May 2022. Neither said very much about the split at the time, but the model began talking more about their breakup after his relationship with Taylor Swift went public in September 2023.
The former couple began dating in 2017 after the Kansas City Chiefs star began liking Kayla’s photos on Instagram and she slid into his DMs.
“He had been following me and Insta-flirting for a few months. All double taps and no DM,” she once explained in an Instagram Story. “Soooo after a little liquid courage and a pep talk from @iqueenb (something along the lines of ‘WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR’) I DM’d him on New Years.”
The pair broke up briefly in August 2020 before getting back together ahead of their final split.
Travis spoke out about the breakup in January 2023, following a report by Barstool Sports that claimed the couple split because the Ohio native always made Kayla “pay half of everything,” including the costs of dinner, travel and other outings.
“How crazy is that?! Don’t buy into that s–t! I would never say that I was supporting her. She had a very financially stable life and what she was doing in her career,” Travis explained during an episode of “The Pivot Podcast.”
“But you’ve got to be crazy if you’d think I would never helped or gave her a couple thousand to grab some food or she gave me some money to go get some food,” he continued. “We were in a relationship for five years. A hundred dollars here and hundred dollars there wasn’t even thought about, which is ridiculous.”
Kayla also responded to the report, writing on X at the time, “Not sure where y’all got this nonsense from, but it’s absurd and very false.”
After Taylor, 34, confirmed her relationship with Travis by attending a Kansas City Chiefs home game on September 24, 2023, Kayla did an interview one month later about how hard her breakup was with the Super Bowl champ.
“I was working out, I was in really great shape, but I felt like s–t, and I was sad, and I was having a hard time getting out of bed,” Kayla told People. “It got to the point where I was like, ‘OK, what else can I possibly do?’ So I started to go to therapy.”
“I’m so thankful for therapy because had I not done that, I don’t know how I would be reacting right now. No clue,” she added, seemingly referencing Travis’ high-profile romance with the pop superstar.
Kayla continued to make comments about Travis’ life long after their romance ended. She critiqued his level of play after the start of the 2024 NFL season while hosting a Vivid Picks segment alongside NFL alums Brandon Marshall and Aqib Talib.
“More a slow start for the guy Travis Kelce,” Kayla quipped.
