We may soon be mourning yet another Hollywood couple, as Victoria and David Beckham were rumored to be splitting. In fact, bookmakers have even stopped taking bets on a potential divorce! While we cross our fingers the rumors are untrue — and the pair themselves have denied any whispers of a split via statements by their reps — relive their 21-year love story with the timeline below. (Posh and Becks, “Say You’ll Be There” for another two decades!)
1997: David and Victoria start dating after meeting at one of his Manchester United matches, at which she scribbled down her phone number on a plane ticket. (“I didn’t really know who he was,” she later told W. “I was never into football.”) The media dubs the couple “Posh and Becks,” citing Victoria’s Spice Girls moniker.
Jan. 24, 1998: David proposes to Victoria over a romantic dinner at a restaurant in Cheshunt, England.
1999: The couple buys a seven-bedroom house in Sawbridgeworth, England, for £2.5 million. The 24-acre property boasts an indoor swimming pool, a recording studio, a gym, and a set of tennis courts.
March 4, 1999: Four months to the day before their wedding, David and Victoria welcome their first child in Westminster, England: a son named Brooklyn Joseph.
July 4, 1999: The couple marries at Luttrellstown Castle outside Dublin, Ireland. Brooklyn is the ring bearer, and David’s teammate Gary Neville serves as best man.

Sept. 1, 2002: Victoria gives birth to her and David’s second child, Romeo James, in Westminster, England. The couple names Elton John and Elizabeth Hurley as the boys’ godparents.
April 2004: News of the World runs an interview with David’s onetime personal assistant Rebecca Loos in which she claims she and he had an extramarital affair. A week later, Australian model Sara Marbeck claims she too has slept with David twice. The football star calls the stories “ludicrous.”

July 22, 2015: David reveals the tattoo he got to celebrate his and Victoria’s 16th wedding anniversary: The number 99 on his pinkie finger, a reference to the year they tied the knot.
September 2016: In a letter published in British Vogue, Victoria describes meeting David. “Yes, love at first sight does exist,” she writes to her younger self. “It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge — although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy.”
January 2017: In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Desert Island Discs, David reveals he and Victoria have renewed their vows. “Of course you make mistakes over the years, and we all know marriage is difficult at times,” he says. “It’s about working through it.”
June 8, 2018: The couple slams reports that they’re splitting. “There is no impending statement, [there] has been no statement, and there is no divorce,” Victoria’s rep tells Us Weekly. “What nonsense. Fake news fueled by social media. Embarrassing for the sloppy outlets who have chosen to write such rubbish.”
