What Is a Double Uterus? Details on the Condition After Hannah Brown Announced Diagnosis

The Bachelorette alum Hannah Brown shocked fans when she announced that she had been diagnosed with a double uterus. What is the condition and what updates has Hannah shared about her health?

What Is a Double Uterus?

A double uterus is “a rare condition that is present at birth in some women. In a female fetus, the uterus starts out as two small tubes. As the fetus grows, the tubes typically join to create one larger, hollow organ. This organ is the uterus,” according to The Mayo Clinic. “Sometimes the tubes don’t join completely. Instead, each one develops into a separate organ.”

What Are Symptoms of a Double Uterus?

There are often no symptoms for a double uterus and many women with the condition are successfully able to carry pregnancies.

“Women who have a double vagina along with a double uterus may first see a health care provider for menstrual bleeding that isn’t stopped by a tampon,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “This can happen when a tampon is placed in one vagina, but blood still flows from the second uterus and vagina.”

Hannah Brown Announced Double Uterus Diagnosis in May 2025

Hannah announced she had been diagnosed with a double uterus on the May 6, 2025, episode of Maria Menounos“Heal Squad” podcast. The topic came up while they were discussing her diagnosis with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

“I still haven’t quite gotten to this because I’m not at a place where I’m ready to have children and I didn’t want to have another thing to add stress, but like, I have a double uterus and I had never been told that until this,” Hannah said.

Hannah added that she had not yet undergone “exploratory surgery” to figure out more about the diagnosis.

“There’s some risk in whatever may be there when I’m ready to have children. It looks like they’re attached in some way, it’s just, like, almost split,” she continued. “She’s going to have to figure out, ‘Is one bigger than the other? Can it, like, hold a baby? Which one is better?’ It’s a whole thing. There’s been so much going on. I was like, ‘I need to put that on a shelf. I don’t need to be stressing about that right now.’”

Hannah Brown Opens Up About Plans for Kids Amid Double Uterus Condition

Hannah went on to recall a conversation she had with a doctor a few years ago, explaining that she was told she didn’t “need to take too extreme of precautions” if she planned to have kids “somewhat soon.”

She was told to have things “planned out,” including freezing her eggs by the age of 30.

“I’m like, ‘OK, I’m getting married this year. I will get right on that right after,’” Hannah – who is engaged to Adam Woolard – said. “It can definitely complicate things because can the size of the uterus hold a baby? Is one better than the other? But there have been cases of people having double uteruses and having babies and being perfectly fine. But it was definitely a shock.”

In fact, Hannah said that her struggles with PCOS is more likely to cause her to “have infertility troubles.”

“To have the knowledge of, like, ‘Hey, this is something that you’re going to want to take care of when you’re ready for that time and to not be surprised by it,’ was really helpful,” she added of her double uterus diagnosis. “And it took multiple doctors to even get to that.”
