Who Are Ellen Pompeo’s Kids? Meet the ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Star’s 3 Children With Husband Chris Ivery
Ellen Pompeo may be known as one of the most influential TV doctors, but in 2022, she reduced her role as Meredith Grey on Grey’s Anatomy to focus on another important job in her life: being a mom. The actress shares three kids with husband Chris Ivery, whom she married in November 2007. Life & Style shares everything to know about her children Stella, Sienna and Eli.
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery Share Daughter Stella Luna
Ellen and Chris first welcomed daughter Stella Luna on September 15, 2009.
“Her name is Stella Luna Pompeo Ivery,” the Good American Family star’s rep confirmed to Us Weekly at the time. “She was born September 15 in Los Angeles.”
Ellen revealed in 2015 that Stella had taken an interest in medicine and enjoyed going to the Grey’s Anatomy set with her mom.
“She loves coming to set,” the Old School actress said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “Linda Klein is our medical producer, wonderful woman [and] good friend of mine, and she just wants to go straight to Linda’s office and play with all the medical things. Yesterday, I went in to find her [and] she was with Linda with a bone drill, drilling a fake femur bone with a real bone drill. She was supervised, but they have her doing advanced procedures!”
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery Share Daughter Sienna May
The couple surprised the world by announcing the birth of their second daughter in October 2014. “Sienna May Ivery welcome to the world. We love you more than words can say,” Ellen captioned a photo of her husband kissing their baby girl on the cheek on Instagram at the time.
She also took to Twitter, now known as X, with more details about the birth, writing, “Sienna was born via surrogate & I would like to thank my whole @ShondalandTV family for helping us enjoy these first few weeks privately.”
Ellen revealed on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that Stella wasn’t quite as thrilled to have a younger sister. “After three months, she was like, ‘Is she leaving?’” she said of her eldest daughter’s reaction to Sienna. “I was like, ‘No, no, she’s going to live here.’ And she was like, ‘Oh, OK.’ She had about a month where she was not in a good mood. Bad mood every day for a month. And now that passed, and now she’s fine.”

Ellen revealed in March 2025 that she isn’t ready to let Sienna watch Grey’s Anatomy, despite Stella tuning into the show.
“My 15-year-old has seen it and now my 10-year-old wants to see it,” she explained on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “Which, she’s not ready. But a lot of kids in her class have seen it. No judgment on other parents, but I don’t want my daughter to see me in my underwear on television just yet. But all her classmates have, so, that makes for great conversation on TikTok.”
Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery Share Son Eli Christopher
Ellen and Chris welcomed son Eli Christopher in December 2016. “Chris Ivery just fell a notch. I’ve got a new guy,” the mom of three captioned an Instagram photo of Chris snuggling with their son.
A rep for the couple told People at the time, “Everyone’s doing great.”
Eli has appeared on Ellen’s social media few times over the years, showcasing his dancing and singing skills. He was also at his mom’s side when she directed an episode of Grey’s Anatomy in 2017. “Directing prep with my mentor and my man,” she captioned a photo of herself holding her son.
Both Eli and Stella joined Ellen, along with their father, at her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony on April 29, 2025. The family was all smiles in their rare photos together. Sienna wasn’t in attendance, and Ellen poked fun at her second eldest daughter’s absence.
“Everybody say ‘Sienna’ because she’s not here!” she joked.
In her speech, she thanked her kids for their support. “This doesn’t happen overnight, and it doesn’t happen easily,” Ellen said. “It takes a village. I love you Stella. I love you Eli.”
