Eric and Jessie James Decker Once Thought About Quitting Reality TV and Thank God They Didn’t

For three years, E!’s hit show Eric & Jessie didn’t grace our small screens and, obvi, that was a very dark time for all of us. But, luckily, the reality TV gods listened to our prayers and the series’ stars, Eric and Jessie James Decker (aka, the living definition of #relationshipgoals), are finally back in action. Season 3 of Eric & Jessie premiered on Wednesday, Sept. 6, and honestly, our lives have been better ever since.

Despite our good fortune, it once seemed that Jessie, 29, was ready to call it quits on her television career for good. During a January 2016 interview with HuffPost Live, the country starlet said that she and her football player hubby, 30, wanted to press pause on sharing their personal lives with viewers after they became parents to daughter Vivianne, 3, and son Eric Jr., 2.

“Never say never, but I just don’t know how comfortable we are with having a camera crew around our children,” the mom-of-two said at the time. “The great thing about Instagram and Twitter and all that, is we’re in control of what we want to put out there. What if a kid’s in a bad mood or tired, and they’re supposed to be in this scene? I just don’t like all of that.”

Eric, an NFL wide receiver who recently signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans, previously agreed that it was a bad idea to put his children on TV. “We plan on keeping her away from it,” the athlete told ABC News in 2014, not long after he and Jessie welcomed Vivianne. “Right now, we are just kind of focused on our baby and careers and we haven’t decided what we are going to do, but we are definitely not going to have her on the show.”

However, the pair — who tied the knot in June 2013 — eventually agreed to revive Eric & Jessie, and their kids are very much apart of the show. And so far, they’ve been nothing but adorable. Still, Jessie felt that it was imperative to retreat from the limelight after Season 2 of the couple’s show wrapped in May 2014.

“They were ready to shoot again for a Season 3 … the timing didn’t feel right. I just wanted to have those precious moments away from everything. I went into hibernation, as you should as a new mommy,” the “Gold” singer told People earlier this year, adding that her little ones are surprisingly naturals in front of the camera. “My kids are so smart, they’re so adaptable to the situation.”

Eric & Jessie airs on E! Wednesdays at 10 p.m. EST.
