2025 Met Gala Theme: ‘Tailored for You’ Dress Code Explained in Personalized Menswear Twist
When Vogue announced the theme for the 2025 Met Gala was “Tailored for You,” many fashion fans were left scratching their heads at the dress code’s meaning. Life & Style breaks down what type of designs and styles attendees are expected to focus on when it comes to fashion’s biggest night.
What Does the 2025 Met Gala ‘Tailored for You’ Dress Code Mean?
The dress code is a spin on the spring 2025 spring exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, which is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” Since the exhibit focuses primarily on menswear, Met Gala guests are encouraged to wear something “purposefully designed to provide guidance and invite creative interpretation,” Vogue announced on February 4, 2025.
Attendees to the A-list event have been given a wide berth in which to express themselves sartorially, as the dress code “can be interpreted in a myriad of ways, but it mostly means embracing looks reflective of one’s personal style,” according to the publication.
However, in a nod to the menswear exhibit, Vogue said that key items guests can wear to go with the theme include suits, along with such accessories as “hats, ties, canes, brooches and pocket squares.”
Who Are the Cochairs of the 2025 Met Gala?
In keeping with the menswear theme of the exhibit focusing on the style history of Black dandyism, the cochairs of the gala includes fashionable male stars as actor Colman Domingo, Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky and multihyphenate Pharrell Williams. NBA superstar LeBron James was named honorary chair.

“Firstly, it’s a real honor and privilege and something that I’ve been working on for a long, long time to get into that position. Just getting to go to the Met Gala was always something really special,” the seven-time F1 champ said in October 2024, after his participation in the event was announced, giving special thanks to Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour.
“Having seen the hosts before, I remember I would look on and think ‘it would be cool one day to be a host.’ Anna’s been so gracious as to include me within that group,” he continued.
“It is such a prestigious event, but that one thing showed that it can be a great event and also have a positive impact,” Lewis explained. “She’s brought me on board and that’s what we’re doing on a bigger scale now moving forwards, so I’m really grateful to be part of that.”
When Is the 2025 Met Gala?
Lewis will have to high-tail it to New York City for the Met Gala, as it takes place on its usual date of the first Monday in May. That means it falls on May 5, 2025. The day prior, the F1 superstar will be racing in the Miami Grand Prix.
Who Is Attending the 2025 Met Gala?
As usual, Anna Wintour’s curated guest list is kept top secret until stars begin arriving at the event. While the cochairs have been announced, it’s a safe bet Rihanna will accompany A$AP Rocky to the gala. The duo attended in 2023 when the theme was “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line Of Beauty,” as well as 2021’s “In America: A Lexicon Of Fashion.”
