Beyonce Chokes Up While Saying How ‘Proud’ She Is of Blue Ivy and Her Performance in ‘Mufasa’

Beyoncé is a proud mom! The “Formation” artist got choked up when talking about her oldest daughter, Blue Ivy, in a recent interview.

“We’re here today recording The Lion King,” Beyoncé, 43, said during an interview with Disney Studios on Tuesday, December 10.

The mom and daughter duo gave fans a behind-the-scenes look into their work on their upcoming film, Mufasa: The Lion King.

Blue Ivy, 12, provided the voice for Kiara in the film, and in the video, she could be heard telling Beyoncé, “Don’t stare at me,” while she was in a recording booth.

“I can’t help it,” Beyoncé replied. “You’re just too beautiful.”

The Grammy winner choked up when talking about Blue and barely had the words to express how proud she was of her daughter and her work on the film.

“Seeing Blue as Kiara and hearing her voice come out of that character, it was really hard to focus and do my job after that,” Beyoncé began while holding back tears. “I was like, ‘Wait, hold up guys. You gotta give me a second. I have to digest that.’ I’m so proud of her.”

The “Texas Hold ‘Em” artist added, “She did such a beautiful job and I can’t believe how natural she is,” before turning to Blue and saying, “I’m proud of you. I’m just so proud of you and I can’t believe how big and grown up you are. I’m proud that she’s going to represent so many young, Brown girls around the world. Nobody’s prouder than mommy.”

Blue was thrilled with the chance to voice one of the characters in the prequel to The Lion King.

“It’s just a really amazing experience, and I feel like everybody that’s a part of this is so helpful and supportive,” Blue said. “The director, Barry [Jenkins] is a really sweet person and he tells me ways that I can improve in my lines.”

She continued, “He’s very supportive of me and tells me in the nicest way possible. I feel like so does everybody else, and I feel like this is just a great experience for me and I’m really happy for girls that look like me all around the world are able to watch this movie and hear and see themselves in it.”

Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z share twins, Rumi and Sir, along with Blue, and Rumi also made an appearance during the interview. Rumi, 7, slid into the frame before wrapping her arms around her mom’s neck while Blue tried to tell her no, but the mom of three had no problem with the extra addition.

“Somebody wants to join,” Beyoncé laughed as Rumi smiled.

Kiara is the daughter of Simba and Nala from the original Lion King film. In Mufasa: The Lion King, Rafiki tells Kiara the story of how Mufasa, her grandfather, came to power. Beyoncé provided the voice of Nala, while Donald Glover was the voice behind Simba.
