From oddball duos to shocking love stories, we’re taking a look at the celebrity relationships that had us doing a double take.
Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston
After Taylor Swift ended things with Scottish DJ Calvin Harris in 2016, she sent fans into a frenzy after being spotted with the actor Tom Hiddleston in Rhode Island.
Despite their breakup, the Thor: Ragnarok star only had good things to say about the Love Story singer. “Of course it was real,” Hiddleston told GQ in 2017. “Taylor is an amazing woman. She’s generous and kind and lovely, and we had the best time.”
On September 6, 2016, PEOPLE reported that Swift and Hiddleston had “an amicable split.”
Chelsea Handler and 50 Cent
While Chelsea Handler and raper 50 Cent only briefly dated in 2011, fans were shocked by the pairing. Luckily, the two are still on good terms.
“I love 50 Cent, he was fun. He was just a sweetheart and he was fun to be around,” she told Entertainment Tonight in January 2023.
“My friends loved hanging out with him. I loved hanging out with him. It was a pretty short-lived romance, it was only two months. But yeah, I mean, If I saw him I’d definitely have a drink with him.”he sweetest people.”
Matthew McConaughey and Janet Jackson
If you can believe it, Matthew McConaughey and Janet Jackson went on one date together back in the day.
After meeting each other at the 2002 Grammy Awards, the Oscar winner revealed what had happened between them during a game of Plead the Fifth on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. “We went and had dinner one time,” he said. “That was sorta it.”
Avril Lavigne and Tyga
Avril Lavigne and Tyga were first linked together on February 19, 2023. The pair was seen having dinner at Nobu in Los Angeles one day before Lavigne called off her engagement to singer, Mod Sun.
The musicians dated for three-and-a-half months before splitting in June 2023.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson
After splitting with longtime partner Mac Miller on May 9, 2018, news broke that Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson were dating on May 18.
By their one-month anniversary, they had gotten matching tattoos, and by June of 2018, the pair were engaged and living together in a $16 million NYC loft alongside their adopted pet pig.
Their relationship came to an end in October 2018. News of the split came one month after Miller was found dead of an overdose at age 26.
Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson
This is a pairing no one saw coming. On October 9, 2021, Kim Kardashian made her SNL debut, which included a steamy kiss with Pete Davidson.
By March 11, 2022, Kim Kardashian and Pete Davidson went Instagram official, sharing two photos of them together.
On March 16, Kardashian joked to host Ellen DeGeneres, “I guess it’s not official until you post.”
“I have the cutest pictures of us and I want to be like, ‘Oh my God, we’re so cute.’ But then I’m like, ‘Don’t be so desperate. Don’t be posting so much, just give a glimpse,’ ” she shared. “I don’t know what the right thing to do is, like, I haven’t dated in since before Instagram existed. Yeah, I don’t know what the rules are.”
After nine months of dating, the duo called it quits.
