Christina Aguilera, Victoria Justice, Lea Michele and More Stepped Out at the 2019 amfAR Gala

Fashionable affair! Christina Aguilera, Lea Michele, Victoria Justice and more A-listers stepped out for a good cause during the 2019 amfAR gala on October 10. The glitzy event that took place at MILK in Los Angeles to benefit The Foundation for AIDS Research.

The organization “is one of the world’s leading nonprofit organizations dedicated to the support of AIDS research, HIV prevention, treatment education and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy,” according to their website. “Since 1985, amfAR has invested more than $517 million in its programs and has awarded grants to more than 3,300 research teams worldwide.”

It was an amazing night for a great cause. Gwyneth Paltrow was honored with the Award of Courage for her nonwavering support of the organization and work with many humanitarian causes near and dear to her heart. She knew she would be accepting the prestigious award but did not prepare a speech for her big moment.

“I don’t think I really believe in thank you speeches,” the 47-year-old confessed on stage. “I feel very humbled and very undeserving and very appreciative. Of course I believe so much in amfAR’s work and have done and will do whatever I can to keep supporting the work until there is a cure for HIV/AIDS.”

Issues like HIV hold a heavier weight actress’ shoulders since becoming a mom, and she noted that “it all hits home in a very different way.” She shares two children — Apple, 15, and Moses, 13, — with her ex Chris Martin.

Age is just a number, but for Gwyneth, it’s brought wisdom and a new perspective. “It’s exceptionally meaningful to me because I think courage is something that I strive to have all the time,” the blonde beauty said about the honor. “I think since I turned 40, I sort of found the courage to be really who I am and to speak from the truest place.”
