‘The Bachelorette’ Star Dean Unglert’s Dad Is Super Eccentric — Get to Know Him Before Hometown Dates!
Who is Dean Unglert’s dad? The blue-eyed hunk is usually smiling and happy in his scenes on Season 13 of ABC’s The Bachelorette, but he finally allowed Rachel Lindsay to dig deeper into who he really is on the inside — and he opened up about his dark family history.

Dean got extremely candid about his rocky relationship with his father — which started to deteriorate after Dean’s mother Debra died in 2006 — and fans will get to see their father-son dynamic during hometowns. Keep reading below to find out more about Dean’s dad!
He goes by a handful of aliases.
According to Ok! Here’s the Situation, Dean’s father’s name is Harold “Chip” Unglert. The only trace of Harold on his son's Instagram page is dated back to 2014 when shared a photo of himself with his dad, who he had referred to as “eccentric,” after he graduated from the University of Colorado Springs.

He goes by Chip Unglert on Linkedin, which reveals that he’s currently working as a Yoga teacher at Earth Oracle Yoga Studio in Colorado. In a bio on the studio's website — which mentions Chip’s late wife Debra — he goes by his spiritual name Paramroop Singh Khalsa. He uses his spiritual name on his Facebook profile, which was found on Dean’s friends list.
He wasn’t there for his son after Debra’s death.
During a one-on-one date with Rachel during Week 7, he said that his relationship with his father has been strained because Chip could not emotionally support his son because he was also going through a grieving process — which left Dean feeling very alone as a teen. He recently opened up about his upbringing on a one-on-one date with Rachel.
Dean and Chip’s relationship issues resurface during hometowns.
In a teaser clip for the remainder of the season, Chip makes an appearance when Dean brings Rachel home — but fans will quickly notice the tension between them during their meeting. All of the pent up emotions eventually lead to an explosive fight between the father and son.
“You didn’t feel loved by your father — is that what you’re saying?” his dad told him. When Dean brought up a disagreement that they had shortly after Dean’s mom passed away, Harold said, “You still have one foot stuck in the past."
Despite their issues, Dean has spoken out in defense of his dad.
Just hours before premiere of the hometown dates episode, Dean took to Instagram to ask viewers “to be cognizant and accepting of the millions of people that belong to the Sikh community,” which is the faith that his father belongs to.
“Although he and I are not close, I respect my father’s decision to follow his heart and pursue the life he has chosen,” Dean continued. “Let us not criticize him for his appearance or his beliefs because by doing so we are disparaging an entire faith and culture that includes millions of people. And I know we are all better than that.”
