Golden Bachelorette’s Joan Vassos Admits She Feels ‘Like a Failure’ After 1 Suitor Exits Show

The Golden Bachelorette star Joan Vassos second guessed herself after one man broke up with her during fantasy suites week.

During the Wednesday, October 30 episode, fans watched Joan, 61, go on dates with suitors Chock Chapple, Guy Gansert and Pascal Ibgui.

Before meeting up with Joan for his fantasy suite date, Pascal, 69, spoke to host Jesse Palmer and revealed he almost got engaged to another woman the previous November. “I want to move on, but I’m having a tough time,” he admitted.

Despite his hesitations, Pascal still went on a date with Joan in Tahiti and they participated in a Tahitian bonding ceremony. Joan said during the ceremony that she wanted to release the “fear of letting somebody in my life” and the fear that she won’t “be honoring” her late husband John’s memory.

“Talking about feeling emotion, I wasn’t ready for that,” Pascal said in a confessional following Joan’s admission. “You know I appreciate the thought behind it and I did my very best to show her who I am, but my wall’s still up. I’m guarded. I’m scared. I’m not ready for that.”

He added that the bonding ceremony “freaked [him] out,” and he went into their dinner with plans to discuss his feelings. The salon owner told Joan that the day had been “very interesting” for him and he had not been “expecting that.”

Pascal then admitted he was previously in love with someone else one year earlier, and he never expected to make it to the final three on The Golden Bachelorette, which his daughter signed him up to compete on.

“I get scared because I’m having a very difficult time to let go,” he continued. “I care very much about you and the reason I wanted to do [this] is to [not] hurt you. I just don’t think I could get at the place that you want me to be.”

Joan then asked Pascal for clarification on if he needed more time or if he believed he would never be “ready” to pursue a romance with her.

“I know what love is. I’ve experienced it, you’ve experienced it,” Pascal responded. “And I’m caring about you as a friend. But I’m not in love, you know, and I just can’t be there and it’s hurting me because we have a good time together.”

He added that he needed “that spark,” and said he didn’t “have it” with her.

While Joan said that how Pascal was feeling was “OK,” she continued to elaborate on her feelings in a confessional. “It’s not how I pictured this going, but you know, life has a funny way of doing that to you,” she said.

After Pascal said that he hates to “hurt people,” Joan admitted that her feelings were hurt over the split.

“It made me know that he knew how to love and he just couldn’t; I wasn’t lovable,” the reality star told the cameras. “It’s hard to be vulnerable once you’ve been hurt. The walls are up again, and I feel like a failure.”
