Gwen Stefani Admits She ‘Didn’t Even Know’ Blake Shelton Existed Before Filming ‘The Voice’ With Him
When it comes to Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s love story, it looks like fate really brought them together. The 49-year-old pop singer revealed that prior to meeting her beau, 43, on the set of The Voice in 2014, she didn’t know who he was, and it’s because she wasn’t familiar with country music.
“Now, it’s normal because we’re together and I’ve learned about country and I’ve accepted that he’s a true hillbilly and all those things, but I can’t imagine like before … I didn’t even know he existed before the show,” she told Andy Cohen on Sirius XM’s Radio Andy in an interview published on Monday, September 23.
“I didn’t even know he was a human being on this planet,” she added. “I didn’t know much about country. Although my parents listened to bluegrass growing up, but that’s not country — I’ve learned that. I’ve listened to Emmylou Harris but that’s not the same. He’s literally a country jukebox. He knows every single song forever. He’s incredible like that. I just love that we’re from different genres.” Aw!
In addition, Gwen confessed that she was worried about what their dynamic would be like on this new season of The Voice since they’ve been dating for a while. However, it’s worked out great so far, and the “Hollaback Girl” crooner says it’s partially because both of them are very open with each other. “I don’t really have too many secrets. I’m very open. Some of the stuff, you’re like, ‘oh, they put that on there.’ That’s funny. That’s me. I’m not being someone different.”
Gwen and Blake became official in November 2015 — months after both of they filed from divorce their respective partners at the time — Gwen from Gavin Rossdale and Blake from Miranda Lambert. Since then, they’ve been going super strong. The duo often gush about each other on social media and are regularly spotted having date nights. “[They] are in a great place and act like loved-up teenagers, it’s so cute!” a source exclusively told Life & Style in April. Their nights out together really help keep the relationship alive.” It looks like the honeymoon phase doesn’t end for some couples!
