Somehow it feels like Jennifer Lopez is going through a career renaissance, even though she hasn’t really gone anywhere. But the point is, these days she seems to be doing everything. She featured in a Las Vegas residency, currently stars in the NBC cop drama Shades of Blue, produces and co-judges World of Dance, and remains an obsession for the paparazzi on every red carpet she steps. And then, of course, there’s that booty.

Born on July 29, 1969, in the Bronx, NY, the seeds for Jennifer’s career were planted at the age of five when she began taking singing and dancing lessons. At seven, she started touring New York with her school. Notes Wikipedia, “Her parents stressed the importance of work ethic and being able to speak English. They encouraged their three daughters to put on performances at home — singing and dancing in front of each other and their friends so that they would stay out of trouble. [J.Lo] spent her entire academic career in Catholic schools, finishing at Preston High School. In school, [she] did gymnastics, ran track on a national level, and was a member of the school’s softball team. She excelled athletically rather than academically, competing in national track championships.”

It was during her senior year of high school that she learned about a film casting that was looking for teenage girls. After auditioning, she was cast in 1986’s My Little Girl. Several years later, in 1991, she was selected as a backup dancer for New Kids On The Block, which led to her being hired as a “Fly Girl” dancer on In Living Color. In 1993, she co-starred with Lindsay Wagner in Lost In The Wild, which was followed by My Family, Money Train, and Jack. But everything moved to the next level in 1997, when she starred in the biopic Selena. After that, the sky was the limit for Jennifer Lopez, moving from film to film, soaring as a recording artist, and blowing away the competition as an overall performer.

During the early days of her career, when success was definitely coming her way, she offered up this explanation to the media: “I have the stardom glow. I work really hard. I’ll just get better as I go along, because I’m open to getting better. If you have the goods, there’s nothing to be afraid of. If somebody doesn’t have the goods, they’re insecure. I don’t have that problem. I’m not the best actress that ever lived, but I know I’m pretty good.”

As it turned out, of course, Jennifer has been very good, with a career that, at this point, has spanned over 30 years and gives absolutely no sign of slowing down. For more on J.Lo, scroll down for a look back at her entire film history.
