Joe Jonas Gives Ex Demi Lovato a Shout-Out While Reminiscing About an Old Interview: ‘Love You, Demi’

Joe Jonas sent some love to his ex Demi Lovato in a new interview. In a Wednesday, November 27, video, the singer referenced a viral interview answer Demi gave in 2015.

Comedian Chris Klemens asked Joe, 35, what his favorite dish is and the Jonas Brothers band member replied, “My favorite dish is a mug,” with a smirk on his face. He then added, “Demi once said that in an interview.”

The interviewer pointed out that Demi’s past viral interview is “why I f–king asked the question,” and admitted to Joe that, “It’s, like, my favorite interview.” Joe then held his hands up in the shape of a heart and said directly to the camera, “Love you, Demi.”

Demi’s interview in question took place while she was promoting her album Confident in 2015. She was also asked about her favorite dish and gave the very literal response instead of naming her favorite food. “I like mugs because they’re very comfortable in your hand,” she said. “They hold hot things that you don’t have to touch. You know, coffee or tea.”

After the video went viral, Demi, 32, made it clear that her response was intentional. “For anybody who actually thinks I misunderstood the ‘favorite dish’ question – you clearly don’t get my sense of humor,” she wrote on social media.

Demi and Joe dated in 2010 after starring in Camp Rock together. Their breakup happened while they were touring together that year and the “Cool for the Summer” singer eventually left the tour to enter rehab.

Despite the split, the former Disney Channel stars stayed friendly over the years, with Demi even lending her support to Joe’s new band, DNCE, by performing with them multiple times in 2017. She also maintained an incredibly close friendship with Joe’s brother Nick Jonas over the years, which included a joint tour in 2016. However, fans have theorized that Demi and the brothers had a falling out after her near-fatal overdose in 2018.

“Like all of you I am thinking of @DDLovato right now. She needs our prayers and support. We all know how strong you are Demi. #prayfordemi,” Joe wrote on X at the time, while Nick added, “Like all of you I am reeling at the news about Demi. All of us love her and ned to pray for her to get well. She is a fighter #prayfordemi.”

Demi was noticeably missing from Nick’s wedding to Priyanka Chopra at the end of 2018, as well as Joe and Sophie Turner’s nuptials the following year. Around that time, she liked a social media post that said, “Who ever left Demi last year don’t come back now. Y’all left her at a hard time in her life wtf who does that. Real friends don’t [do] that I hope she exposes every one of y’all.” She also subsequently liked posts that slammed Nick and Joe for hanging out with her ex Wilmer Valderrama and his new girlfriend, including one that was captioned, “Yes Demi stay away from these fake people.”

However, in 2021, Joe and Demi put any feud rumors to rest when they posed for a photo together on Halloween. The two attended the same party and took a selfie together, which Joe shared on his Instagram Story and Demi reposted. At the time, he was still with Sophie, 28, who was also at the party.

After Joe’s latest interview, fans are thrilled to see that Joe and Demi are still seemingly on good terms. “In the year 2024?!?! my poor heart can’t take this,” one person wrote on X. Another added, “How is this real in the year 2024 joe jonas and demi lovato you will always be famous,” and someone else wrote, “Joe jonas referencing demi’s interview where she said that a mug was her favorite dish was not on my 2024 bingo card.”
