Kate Hudson Suffers Wardrobe Malfunction in Plunging Gown While Onstage: ‘You Didn’t Expect This!’

Kate Hudson had a slip-up after a screening of her new Netflix series, Running Point, and experienced two wardrobe malfunctions during the cast panel discussion.

The Hollywood starlet, 45, and her costars attended the event at The Paley Center for Media in Midtown Manhattan on February 26. Kate wore a Grecian-style dress on the red carpet that featured a plunging neckline and open sides that were ruched toward the front of the garment. A thick empire waistband held the top up, while the back draped open. During the concluding Q&A of the evening, the waistband of Kate’s dress seemingly popped and loosened the fabric that covered her chest.

During the first mishap, Kate grabbed her chest as the top of her dress fell loose, right before exposing her breasts to the audience, as seen in a video shared by Daily Mail on Wednesday, March 2. Kate’s costars Brenda Song and Justin Theroux came to her aid as the former Disney star, 36, blocked the crowd’s view from Kate as Justin, 53, and the panelist host helped adjust her garment.

“You didn’t expect this!” the Glass Onion actress told the crown before Justin joked, “It’s a car accident back here!”

Later in the conversation, Kate’s dress came undone while she applauded her costar Jay Ellis. Justin came to her side once again, noting, “It’s getting boring at this point.”

Kate is no stranger to experiencing embarrassing wardrobe malfunctions over the years. In fact, some of her fashion mishaps occurred in front of legendary stars, including the late pop icon Prince.

Much like her recent incident, the How to Lose a Guy In 10 Days star wore a curve-hugging Versace gown at the 2005 Golden Globes. The gown was so tight that Kate couldn’t sit down without the seams of the dress starting to rip.

“I spent the Golden Globes not being able to sit. I was sitting, actually, next to Prince,” Kate told People in 2021, revealing she had to improvise and laid down “sideways” during the award show while seated next to the “Purple Rain” rocker.

“He just thought it was so funny,” Hudson recalled to the outlet. “And God rest his soul, but I was sideways the whole time.”

Back in 2016, Kate suffered a wardrobe malfunction while walking the Met steps and again at a Met Gala afterparty. Lady Gaga trailed behind Kate while walking the carpet and accidentally stepped on the starlet’s sheer white Atelier Versace gown while dressing in the “Technology” theme.

Kate swapped gowns while attending an afterparty at The Standard High Line and almost suffered a major wardrobe malfunction as her wrap dress featured a high slit that barely covered her frontals. The Raising Helen star had to hold the skirt portion of the gown down while walking into the venue.

Since she’s a red carpet pro, Kate swears by nipple covers that help her through any cleavage problem.

“I have to bring [them] with me everywhere, because I don’t like bras. I like to put these on my boobies so that, you know, nothing ever gets too aggressive,” Kate told British Vogue in 2023. “To make sure a picture doesn’t become, like, too much of a conversation piece.”
