Reese Witherspoon Confirms She Is Returning for ‘Legally Blonde 3’ By Recreating That Iconic Pool Scene
If there’s one person the world needs right now, it’s Elle Woods. Thankfully, with talks of Legally Blonde 3 circulating fast, everyone’s favorite Delta Nu sorority girl turned high-powered lawyer will be back on the big screen soon enough!
According to Deadline, MGM is finalizing a deal with Reese Witherspoon to return as the legendary Elle Woods for a third installation of the Legally Blonde franchise. In addition, the production studio has also brought back the majority of the creative team from the first film. The 42-year-old actress finally confirmed the news by recreating that iconic pool scene — complete with sparkly hot pink bikini, because, you know, whoever said orange was the new pink was seriously disturbed.
“It’s true…” Reese captioned the video of herself floating in the pool just like she did back in 2001 in her Harvard admissions video. What like it’s hard? Despite the fact that it’s been nearly two decades since Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) hit theaters, the themes of the movie are more relevant than ever. While the plot of this new feature has remained mostly a secret, Deadline reports that female empowerment will play a large role.
Let’s face it, fictional or not, nobody does female empowerment better than Elle Woods. However, it has yet to be confirmed as to whether Reese’s co-stars — namely Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, and Jennifer Coolidge — will be returning to the project.
TBH, we’re mostly concerned about the return of Bruiser Woods, Elle’s trusted chihuahua companion. Sadly, the pooch who originally played the role (real name Moonie) has since passed.
In 2016, Reese paid tribute to her fallen co-star on Instagram. “I will never forget all the days we spent together…I’m sure his tail is wagging in the sky,” the now 42-year-old wrote. Here’s hoping another furry actor is ready to live up to the part — he or she will have big paws to fill!
