Nikki Bella Reveals the Real Reason for Her Split From John Cena Wasn’t About Having Kids
She’s focusing on herself! It’s been four months since Nikki Bella and John Cena broke fans’ hearts when they announced their split — just weeks before they were set to get married in Mexico — and fans thought it was because of John’s reluctance to have children. Now, in an interview with Page Six, Nikki revealed that kids were not the reason for their split because she doesn’t want to have kids right now anyway — and she has her niece, Brie Bella‘s daughter Birdie Joe to thank for that.
“She has been the best form of birth control for me,” Nikki told Page Six about her one-year-old niece. “Here I was dying to be a mom. Now I want to push it back. Can my clock tick until my 40s?”
John and Nikki often clashed over their differing views about family planning on Nikki’s hit E! reality TV series Total Divas and Total Bellas, and their split played out on Season 3 of Total Bellas. But Nikki previously exclusively revealed to Life & Style that she had “hope” that she and John would get back together, and she is still very much single — and she realized that kids was just an overlying issue in her relationship and the core of John and Nikki’s problems were about sacrifice and compromise.
On the Season 3 finale of Total Bellas, Nikki revealed that she wanted to take some time apart from John to focus on herself and her career and dreams. She decided that she would keep herself busy by working towards her goals while John is working on his — the 41-year-old is now in China filming a movie until October.
“One person had to sacrifice their career [for us to be together], but I’m not willing to do that,” Nikki explained. “I’m just not the girl who hangs out on set. I have my own career. I want to be one of Forbes’ top entrepreneurs.”
