Samantha Markle Criticizes Meghan’s ‘Controversial’ Maternity Wardrobe: ‘I Would Spend Less’
Will the shade ever end? With Meghan Markle slated to give birth to her first child any minute now, TLC aired a special on Tuesday, April 9, called Meghan & Harry: A Royal Baby Story. Unfortunately, one of the central, er, correspondents was the duchess’ estranged half-sister, Samantha Markle.
Unsurprisingly, the 54-year-old had mostly negative things to say about her pregnant sibling — particularly when it came to her maternity wardrobe, as well as how she plans to raise her child. During the special, several interviewees highlighted Meghan’s more extravagant maternity ensembles, including an Oscar de la Renta gown she wore to the Australia Geographic Society Awards.
“I would spend less. I think a lot of people would. So, that has been a bit controversial,” Samantha quipped. She then went on to comment on whether or not Meghan will be able to handle those first few months of motherhood. “I think Meg will definitely get a nanny,” Samantha expressed.
“I’m pretty sure that her threshold for stress could be quite low in the beginning,” she continued. “How many rooms in Frogmore? I can see them all being filled with nannies … Meghan is very strong-minded, and there will definitely be a butting of heads, but Meghan could learn and grow from that. So, if the nanny is strong enough, then she won’t be left in tears.”
Ouch. Not cool, Samantha, not cool. Seeing as she has three children of her own — Noelle, Christopher and Ashleigh — you’d think she want to offer some advice, but alas, no dice. Of course, Samantha couldn’t end an interview without mentioning the pair’s father, Thomas Markle.
“I certainly think it’s unfair to overshadow how integral dad was in [Meghan’s] life,” Samantha declared. “It’s not that we were never there. We’ve gone to your dance recitals, holidays, Thanksgivings … now all of a sudden we don’t exist. You can’t hurt people like this and then turn around and flip the script and play victim.”
Samantha concluded: “I would like to think that this child would have access to the best parts of grandad … and get to know that side of the Markles.”
