If anyone knows what it’s like to be strong, pop star Selena Gomez might have more experience than anyone. The 26-year-old has been through the ringer with past health issues and mental illness struggles, but in a recent interview with Elle, she’s revealed that she’s ready to do the best she can. On the heels of debuting her new activewear line, SGxPUMA, which is, yes, her initials but also reportedly stands for “Strong Girl,” Selena spoke about the pressures of the type of platform she has, and how she hopes to use it in the future.

Clearly, when you were once reportedly “the most followed person on Instagram,” there are a lot of people watching how you live your life. And not only is Selena aware of it, but she wants to do something positive with all the attention she gets. “I want to encourage women. I really would love to use my platform for good, and along the way have so much fun with movies and the music. I wouldn’t be able to do any of it if it weren’t for the people that supported me, and that kind of sounds like a cliché, but its true,” Selena revealed to Elle. “So I think for me, I’ve always wanted to be a good example. Not because I’m not going to mess up — I f–k up all the time. It’s more just that I want to be honest with them. I’m going to say: I’m trying the best I can and that’s what you can do too — just try the best that you can, and it’s hard. And you’re not alone.”

For Selena, coming out with this activewear line reportedly gives her even more of a platform to remind women and girls that their best is perfectly good enough. In response to the little encouraging notes in the tags of the some of the garments in her new line, Selena said she thinks “it’s important for girls to know the strength in everything, their identity and their soul, lies within themselves.”

She added, “And too much today you give that away so easily, from social media to school or relationships. And I think it’s important — I want to remind girls that they’re perfectly strong the way they are.”

We really love seeing Selena so open about how she wants to positively impact the world, despite the fact that’s she’s been knocked down time and time again. The struggle is real and we don’t know about you, but… if we had Selena reminding us that we’re strong, every single day? We might just actually believe it.
