We may not see them together very often anymore, but rest assured, Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez are still good friends. The former Disney duo has actually allegedly reconnected recently, after they both suffered through some tough health issues in 2018. An insider tells Life & Style exclusively that relating to each other’s trials and tribulations has brought them a lot closer.

Selena reportedly checked herself into a treatment center in October after suffering from a mental breakdown, and Demi went to rehab for three months following her apparent overdose earlier this year. Despite their hurdles, they’re coming out stronger than before! “Selena and Demi are both doing great and have made so much progress,” the source told Life & Style. “In some ways, their issues have actually brought them closer.”

The pair has even allegedly began talking on the phone more and venting to each other. But don’t worry, they’re both still getting the appropriate professional help they need, “They obviously have doctors and professionals on-hand as they continue to seek outpatient treatment,” the source notes. “But having grown up in the spotlight together, they can relate to each other in ways that nobody else can.”

The talented pair truly has a bond that few can relate to. They both started acting on Barney & Friends when they were just tiny little kids. Not long after, the wound up on the Disney Channel with Demi starring on Sonny with a Chance and Selly famously playing Alex Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place. While many former child stars end up troubled, this pair has always had each other to rely on when things get out of hand. Though they don’t hang out as much as they used to, they still clearly have a special place in each other’s lives, and we couldn’t be happier for them. Stay strong, guys!
