Back in August, Demi Lovato experienced a near-fatal drug overdose that sent shockwaves across the globe. While the beloved singer is now clean and sober, some people are still facing the aftermath of her personal tragedy. According to Radar Online, Demi’s former personal trainer, Danielle Martin, claimed that the 26-year-old fired her following the overdose.

“I lost my job for speaking up for her, to be honest,” Danielle told the outlet. “Pretty sad. I did nothing but empower her. Nothing bad to say. The people around her I’m sure were happy to run to her. They told her I was taking the situation and making it all about me. I’d never do that. Not ever. I was standing up for her. That’s all.”

Reports have suggested that Demi’s family did encourage her to cut out the toxic influences from her life. However, Danielle doesn’t seem to think that she fits the bill. “It’s really sad. [She] and I did really good work and she was empowered by it. I’m hurt. Very. I worked with her for nearly three years and not even a phone call. Just a text. Loyalty works both ways. Definitely not cool,” the fitness instructor added.

Danielle went on to explain that Demi, in many ways, is not just an entertainer — she’s responsible for employing people. “The jobs of people around her are dependent on her issues. I empowered her above those issues,” Danielle reiterated. “I was a threat to them. This is how I see it. She told me before that certain people would always try to divide. She didn’t understand it and I saw it clearly. I always told her ‘you’re the boss, period,'” she continued.

That said, there doesn’t seem to be any resentment between the two, at least not on Danielle’s behalf. “I miss her. I care deeply for her, but I won’t beg for any of that,” she confessed. “Decency and respect. I deserve that. Not a text disposing of everything we built. It’s very sad.”
