I Do! Olympic Gymnast Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens Are Married: Courthouse Wedding Details
It’s official x2! Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens tie the knot in a stunning Cabo San Lucas ceremony weeks after their gorgeous courthouse wedding in Houston, Texas.
The pair said “I do” during an intimate destination wedding on Saturday, May 6, in Mexico in front of 144 guests. The bride, 25, wore a stunning Galia Lahav ballgown embellished with lace and pearls.
The Olympic gold medalist legally married her NFL beau at the Harris County Courthouse in Houston, Texas, on April 22. “I do,” she captioned a series of photos from the intimate ceremony. “Officially Owens.
Simone’s new husband, 27, responding in the comments saying, “Wifey got a great ring to it. First day of forever.”
While their courthouse ceremony was only attended by the judge who married them and their photographer, the Ohio native later revealed that she and the Houston Texan safety have a much larger celebration planned.
“We will be having a wedding in a couple weeks,” she shared via her Instagram Story the following day. “We had to get married ‘legally’ here in the U.S. since our wedding will be a destination wedding,” she continued, adding that their rings used for the legal ceremony were purchased from Amazon.
Simone and Jonathan got engaged in February 2022 after nearly two years of dating.
“THE EASIEST YES. I can’t wait to spend forever and ever with you. You’re everything I dreamed of and more! Let’s get married, FIANCÉ,” the Olympic gold medalist captioned several engagement photos via Instagram, including shots of the NFL star down on one knee.
For his part, Jonathan gushed at the time that he was “ready for forever” with the Courage to Soar author.
It’s no secret that the lovebirds are absolutely crazy over each other. They made their relationship public via Instagram in August 2020 and haven’t looked back.
“He’s a real man. I love him. We have a great time together,” the Simone Biles Story star said during a January 2021 virtual appearance on Today. “Our personalities match right up. We have the same sense of humor … He’s just great. He’s an athlete, too, so we really understand each other, and I think that’s why our relationship has been seamless.”
As for the football safety, who plays for the Texans, he’s been impressed with Simone from the start.
“Her work ethic was really the first thing that caught my eye,” Jonathan explained during the third episode of Simone’s Facebook Watch series, Simone vs. Herself. “I never really watched gymnastics before I first started talking to her. When I met her, I honestly didn’t know who she was.”
He quickly learned that the highly decorated athlete was a force in the sports world.
“It was just like, ‘Oh, she has a lot of followers — she must be pretty good or something,’” he continued. “That’s how I would tell people and they’d be like: ‘Simone Biles?! You for real, the gymnast?!’ And I’m like, ‘Man, she’s good like that?!’”
Simone revealed during an interview with the Wall Street Journal in August 2021 that she slid into his DMs after thinking he was “pretty cute.”
“We vibe on the same level, we have the same kind of humor,” she said of Jonathan. “We’re both athletic, we’re both elite athletes so definitely get each other. It was like it was meant to be. Everybody loves him, even my family.”
