Taylor Swift and Boyfriend Travis Kelce Skip 2025 Met Gala Amid Career Hiatuses
Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce skipped the 2025 Met Gala on Monday, May 5, amid their career hiatuses.
The “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer, 35, is currently taking a break after concluding her Eras tour in December 2024, while Travis, 35, is also resting after the 2024-2025 football season came to an end.
The event – which is traditionally held on the first Monday of May each year at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City – would have marked the first red carpet event they attended together since they started dating in the summer of 2023. It’s not clear why Taylor and Travis opted to not attend, though a source confirmed to E! News that they wouldn’t be among the guests at the Met Gala before the event concluded.
Taylor is no stranger to the Met Gala, as she previously attended the event six times before the 2025 gala. She even served as a cochair during the 2016 Met Gala. Meanwhile, Travis has never attended a Met Gala.
While the couple has been known to publicly support each other at his games and at her concerts, they have been keeping a low-profile following the Chiefs’ loss against the Philadelphia Eagles during Super Bowl LIX in February.
“It’s been a dream period that’s only solidified that they’re on the same page about their future,” an insider exclusively told Life & Style in April amid their break from the spotlight. The source added that Taylor and Travis have been busy planning the “next steps” in their relationship, and they are even “amping up wedding discussions.”
According to the insider, “Taylor and Travis’ time out of the limelight has given them a taste of what life will be like when they’re married, not promoting anything, and not on anyone’s radar.”
The source added that their down time has made them confident in how strong their relationship is. “They already knew how compatible they were, but this break away from everything has allowed them to grow closer and be even more certain,” the insider explained.
An additional source shared insight into why Taylor and Travis have chosen to stay out of the spotlight amid their career hiatuses.
“Taylor’s been in rest-and-relaxation mode since she wrapped her Eras Tour in December,” the insider exclusively told Life & Style. “The plan has always been to enjoy the off-season with Travis by packing in a lot of travel.”
The source added that “they’re enjoying this time together” after they both had such “intense” years.
While both Taylor and Travis have been careful to not share many personal details about their relationship with the public, a third insider exclusively told Life & Style on February 27 that he has changed for the better thanks to his girlfriend.
“Travis has had girlfriends before, but none that he tried to impress the way he has with Taylor,” the source said at the time, adding that he’s become a “better man” with the “Enchanted” singer by his side. “Taylor comes first in his life. This is a big deal for Travis.”
Jason Kelce confirmed that his younger brother has evolved while appearing on the February 18 episode of the “Fitz & Whit” podcast.
After he noted that the tight end was “changing,” Jason seemingly alluded to his romance with Taylor. “I think sometimes you get people in your life that maybe get that out of you and that’s a good thing,” the podcast host said.
