What happened?! While in New York for a book signing, Mel B somehow suffered two broken ribs and an almost-severed hand. The Spice Girl shared photos of the injury on Instagram, including a short video of some friendly faces that came to visit.

“Thank you to all the wonderful nurses, dr’s [SIC], and my amazing surgeon for the care and expertise given to me here at the hospital I’ve been staying at,” Mel captioned a photo of herself in a blue hoodie and full-arm sling. “Suffering two broken ribs, a severed right hand needing emergency care, to having [to] have a three hr surgery to repair the damage, hence the purple sling.”

The singer then apologized to fans for having to cancel her book signing but assured that she will reschedule. “My right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs,” she added. “Ohhh the pain, but I’m in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital.” She added “#accidentshappen,” which means that was one major mishap. She didn’t divulge what “accident” led to her broken ribs and hand injury, but fans were quick to send well wishes to Mel.

It looks like her friends were just as concerned. The singer posted a short video of some unexpected visitors. Her Spice Girl bandmates, Emma Bunton (Baby), Melanie C (Sporty), and Geri Halliwell (Ginger), all flew over the pond to check on Mel. “When your besties show up to [the] hospital with hugs, laughter, and A LOT of love,” Mel gushed about the video. She added, “I love my spice girls,” with “#friendship” and “#family” in the caption.
