After Hannah Brown dumped Peter Weber on the Monday, July 29, episode of The Bachelorette, fans were upset to see him go. However, there were rumors going around that the pilot was in a relationship with Calee Lutes before he went on the show, but the 27-year-old finally cleared up those accusations.

“There was a lot of truth to what she said in her story, but there is also a lot of truth that wasn’t mentioned,” the handsome hunk told People in an interview published on July 30. “The show had absolutely nothing to do with me ending that relationship.”

Calee claimed that the two met through a dating app in June 2018. “I live in Atlanta, and he lives in L.A. He had just been hired by Delta, so he was in Atlanta for a month for training. We hit off and decided to continue dating long distance after his month was up,” she told Entertainment Tonight on July 15. Even though their relationship wasn’t long, it seemed like they got seriously quickly. “He told me he loved me for the first time in October, and we talked almost every time we saw each other about how we were going to make it last long term.”

The former flames ended up dating for five months until he abruptly ended things in December 2018. “The whole month of December, everything was normal … We talked yet again about the future, and he asked me if I could see myself living in Santa Barbara with him,” she recalled. “He flew to Atlanta a week later to spend the weekend with me, and again, everything was perfectly normal. We said our goodbyes, and that was the last time we saw each other.”

The aspiring model confessed that she thought that Peter might have been cheating on her. “I thought there was another girl, so I looked at his recent followers on Instagram and noticed that a Bachelorette producer had recently followed him,” she said. “He absolutely betrayed me. He interviewed for a reality dating show while simultaneously planning a future with me. I trusted him entirely, and he pulled the rug out from under me.”

Ultimately, the California native made it clear that that was far from the truth. “I was very serious in trying to progress that relationship and move it forward,” he explained. “And she wasn’t on the same page as me. That being said, I wasn’t going to waste her time or my time. But the casting process and my first interview was months after we broke up.”

The former contestant added, “It’s obvious that I hurt someone that I really did care about … That was never my intention. And for that, I’m sorry. Breakups suck!”

Despite the drama, Chris Harrison gave Peter the benefit of the doubt. “Peter is going to have a little explaining to do,” he told Entertainment Tonight earlier this month. “I know more about Peter, just because I did some digging. Because some allegations were made in her claims that had to do with us and casting, so I was just curious, so I asked around. In that regard, I’m less worried and less intrigued about Peter’s situation because I know some truths that either I’ll explain or Peter will explain.”

Fans are still hoping that Peter will be the next Bachelor, though. One person wrote, “I SWEAR if Hannah doesn’t choose Peter, he HAS TO be the next Bachelor. My man Peter is SPECIAL.” Another echoed, “I’m praying Hannah chooses Peter, but if she’s crazy and doesn’t … he should be the next Bachelor.” A third chimed in, writing, “Peter telling Hannah he loves her was the sweetest, cutest, most wonderful thing to watch. Please ABC, make him the Bachelor, PLEASE.”

Only time will tell what happens next!
