We. Can’t. Keep. Up. On Saturday, March 23, Zayn Malik took to Twitter to share a couple of emotional (since-deleted) tweets. The first message read, “I’d like to apologize for basically being a s–t person.” The second was a solemn selfie of the former One Direction singer, 26, staring off into the distance.  

Immediately, fans began to speculate that Zayn’s vulnerable moment was about his relationship with Gigi Hadid. After all, the pair is known for breaking up and making up every other week. As it happens, they may have been right! But there’s a bit more to the story than that.

“Zayn is going through a rough patch,” a source confessed exclusively to Life & Style, adding that the pop star is a “very complex person.” Additionally, the source noted that “he’s split from Gigi again.” However, that’s not entirely the source of his pain.

He’s “guilt-ridden about his [falling out] with Louis Tomlinson. Zayn didn’t make any effort with Louis after his mom died and now, his sister has passed and he feels terrible.”

Given that Zayn and Gigi just got back together earlier this month, we suspect that their umpteenth breakup won’t last too long. As for Zayn’s troubled relationship with Louis? Well, that’s seemingly more difficult to fix. Speaking on Dan Wootton’s podcast, Louis, 27, explained what transpired between the pair.

“I had a couple of calls with him after I lost my mum, and all the boys had agreed to come to that performance, and he didn’t show, so that really bugged me. It was just seeing everyone there — Harry, Niall, and Liam — that was what I needed that night, that support. So on the other end of the spectrum, it kind of really showed. So, eh, I hope he’s alright, but…”

Sigh. That really had to have hurt. Here’s hoping that Zayn is admitting his wrongdoings to Louis … not just on Twitter. We’d hate to see any bad blood between the old bandmates continue.
