Zooey Deschanel Offers Wedding Planning Update with Jonathan Scott: ‘The Bar is High’

Actress Zooey Deschanel is taking her time to do things right for her upcoming nuptials.

She and her fiancé, Jonathan Scott, of Property Brothers fame, got engaged in 2023. Over two years later, the stars are still in the beginning stages of their wedding preparations.

“It’s more exploratory,” Deschanel told PEOPLE of their wedding planning phase.

“We’re not in a rush because we’ve been together so long, so it’s not like we’re like, ‘We gotta get married,’” she continued to tell the outlet in a December 5 exclusive. “I’d rather find the right place, the right place and situation, so that it’s really special and fun.”

The couple is enjoying taking the time to perfect all the details of the day.

“The bar is high for throwing a party,” Deschanel added. “So it has to be really good. So that’s why it’s taking a long time.”

Another reason for the delay is that the couple has been very busy balancing their careers with caring for Deschanel’s young children, Elsie, 10, and Charlie, 8.

“We’ve just been having so much fun traveling with the kids and filming this show and stuff,” Scott told PEOPLE back in August. “So no, we have not actually made any plans yet, which, it’s been two years now since I proposed.”

“Whatever we do, it has to be meaningful to us and we want to gather our friends and family and have a good time,” he said. “We want to keep it very, very intimate.”

Additionally, it seems a destination wedding may be in order for the travel-loving couple.

“I think we want to have a warm wedding and haven’t figured out where that’s going to be yet,” Scott added. “We literally haven’t made any plans yet. We’re busy with all of the kids’ stuff, and so we’re really just chauffeurs to the kids’ social lives.”
