Awards season is basically equivalent to a high school reunion in the celebrity world. Aside from getting praised for their work, stars take the opportunity to catch up with old friends, the same way Camila Cabello and Normani did after their reconciliation at the Billboard Music Awards in May 2018. They’re both set to perform at the 2019 VMAs on August 26, so now that they’ve patched things up, we can’t wait to see what their interaction will be like.

The former bandmates became friends during their X Factor days after forming Fifth Harmony in 2012 with Lauren Jauregui, Ally Brooke and Dinah Jane. However, the girls’ bond changed forever when Camila decided to resign the group and focus on her solo career in 2016.

The “Havana” singer’s departure was not well received by the remaining members of 5H. At the time, they said they tried to make it work and claimed they asked Camila to stay with them for at least one more album, which she refused. “We were truly hurt,” the group said in a statement. “We’ve been together for almost five years, been through ups and downs. While this isn’t the way any one of us would have wanted this chapter in our lives to have ended, we had to begin to formulate a plan and constructive path for Fifth Harmony to move forward, beyond Camila.”

Since then, Camila and Normani didn’t speak, but that all changed almost two years after the “Never Be the Same” crooner left the band. In an interview with Marie Claire, which was published in November 2018, the brunette beauty recalled her encounter with the “Motivation” singer at the 2018 BBMAs earlier that year. Thankfully, it seemed like there was no more bad blood between them.

“I saw Normani at the Billboard [Music] Awards, and we kind of mutually came up to each other,” Camila told the outlet. “She’d performed that night, and so I was like, ‘Oh, how was it?’ She said, ‘Oh, I was so nervous.’ And I was like, ‘By next year you’ll be totally fine. You’re killing it. I’m so happy for you. I’m so excited to see what you do with your music.’ I told her, ‘I just want you to know, I really hope we can all move on from everything, and I’m genuinely happy for the other girls, and I hope you tell them I wish you the best.’ And she was like, ‘I’m so proud of you.’ It felt like everything is totally fine.”

We can’t wait to see what their reunion at the 2019 VMAs will be like!
