Comedian Sebastian Maniscalco has been named as the host of the 2019 MTV Video Music Awards and it came as a surprise to everyone — even him! The funnyman seemed like a random choice for the event, but he actually has an extremely impressive resume — from multiple standup specials on Netflix to appearing in the Oscar-winning movie Green Book. He is well aware that “three million teenagers were gonna Google, ‘Who is Sebastian Maniscalco?'” and he’s A-OK with that. More importantly, the Chicago native isn’t afraid to poke a little fun at himself.

“This is, like, millennial and my audience is, you know, sometimes they need some help getting into the theater … So that’s why I’m doing it. It’s a challenge,” the 46-year-old joked during an August 21 interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning. He also noted that his family roasted him over not knowing “anything about music.” Sebastian has proven his comedy chops, but will he be able to catch up with all the pop culture?

“I don’t really know a lot about music. I know it from afar,” the Italian stud admitted. “I’ve been studying. I just found out who Normani is!” While the “Motivation” singer is a great start, he still has a little ways to go. “I know music but I don’t know the inner workings. I don’t know the feuding, who’s got beef with who. But I’m finding all this out,” he further explained.

The award show is approaching fast and will be taking place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Monday, August 26. Big names like Taylor Swift, Camila Cabello, Lizzo and Lil Nas X are all slated to perform. Sebastian better step up his game and learn what it means to have a hot girl summer, why all eyes will be on Camila and Shawn Mendes and if Taylor plans on dropping any more Easter eggs.

Overall, we can’t wait to see what Sebastian brings to the stage!
