Making history! Bachelor star Peter Weber is the second Hispanic leading man in franchise history — season 18’s Juan Pablo Galavis was the first. The pilot is excited to share his “Cuban roots” with fans every Monday night. The Bachelor Nation stud is very proud of his heritage and noted that his family dynamic means that his sweet parents will be popping up all over the place during season 24.

“You see a lot of my Cuban roots come out from probably the first episode. There’s definitely a theme of the whole Hispanic side throughout the show, I’m not gonna lie. It’s cool. And I love that,” the 28-year-old divulged to Entertainment Tonight on January 3. During the season premiere on January 6, Peter took contestant Madison Prewett to his parent’s vow renewal and they made us all tear up with their love.

Peter opened up more about his family’s history — and it explains why he still lives at home, despite his amazing job as a Delta pilot. The leading man’s mom, Barbara, dished details about her son’s life during Rachel Lindsay and Ali Fedotowsky‘s “Bachelor Happy Hour” podcast on January 1.

“In old-time Cuba, the kids would be at home and in their 20s they would get married, and they would still live at home. They would have children and the grandparents … it was one big happy family,” she explained. “Everybody living at home, so contrary to what a lot of people say like, can’t wait to get rid of the kids … our culture is a little bit different, and not that one is right and one is wrong, we want to keep that family tie, that unity together. And that’s one of the reasons that Peter and my other son, Jack, are still living at home because there’s no reason really to move out.”

Barbara — who was born in Havana, Cuba — added, “We’re very happy living at home, everybody together.”

In case you’re wondering, being under his parent’s roof doesn’t cramp Peter’s style. “I’ve brought girls home, and it’s not weird,” he confessed to . “The next morning, I’ll wake up and the girl is making breakfast with my mom, and they’re chatting it up. I know it’s not normal.”

Peter has a great family that he’s super proud to show off. We can’t wait to watch his journey to find love unfold!
