Prince Harry Is (Probably) to Blame When Meghan Markle Breaks Royal Fashion Protocol
This past weekend, Twitter exploded when Meghan Markle appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony with exposed shoulders alongside her royal in-laws — breaking royal protocol in the process. However, it’s now being reported that Prince Harry is her secret stylist, which means he’s the one to blame for her ~fashion faux-pax~.
“Meghan is always asking Harry’s opinion. She really wants his views,” a source told The Daily Mail. “He gives his views on what he thinks looks best, rather than helping her follow royal protocol on hemlines or anything like that. The joke is that Harry is Meghan’s surprise stylist.” One of Meghan’s favorite designers, Stella McCartney, who created her second haltertop wedding dress, is currently being recruited to design more clothes for the former Suits actress — and Harry is right there to give his seal of approval.
“The special projects team at Stella McCartney are working on a few more outfits for Meghan, and Harry always comes to design meetings and fittings to give his opinions on the looks,” the source added. So, where was Harry when Meghan opted for an off-the-shoulder Carolina Herrera gown at the Trooping of the Colour event on Saturday, which clearly went against the royal fashion rules that require women to cover their shoulders?
“Kate [Middleton] will ALWAYS be the classy one. Who wears an off-the-shoulder number to such an event? Oh, MM, that’s right,” one spectator rudely tweeted before another troll added, “She will never be a lady. She broke the royal protocol again by wearing a sexy dress when a more discreet outfit was de rigueur and not a “off shoulder dress”. She will never learn because she craves the limelight.” Seriously, people have zero chill.
However, we can’t blame Harry and Meghan for trying to bring the royal family into the 21st century. Meghan also technically “broke protocol” when she opted to not wear pantyhose during the couple official engagement announcement AND she dared to wear a cross-body bag during an appearance at Edinburgh Castle (when everyone knows lady only use clutches).
