‘RHOBH’ Star Dorit Kemsley Opens Up About Crumbling Marriage to PK: ‘Agreed to Separate’
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Dorit Kemsley opened up about her crumbling marriage with Paul “PK” Kemsley to Erika Jayne and Kathy Hilton in the season 14 premiere. She shocked her costars with some of the details that included PK having “avoidance issues” and problems with “communicating.”
“PK and I have agreed to separate,” Dorit, 48, told Erika, 53. “It’s sad and it’s hard. It’s also no secret we’ve had a really rough couple of years. We’ve had a rough couple of years, and even before that, you know, just like with most married couples, you have your issues.”
The mom of two said that while couples “deal” with their problems “differently,” she claimed that PK, 57, “was pouring alcohol on his [problems].” She also described their relationship as “very, very, very toxic.”
“PK’s always been a drinker, but over the years, it’s gotten progressively worse,” Dorit explained during a private confessional. “Little fights would turn into blowups. We would be in the gutter after a fight, screaming at one another. I don’t want that toxic energy around small children.”
As Dorit continued, she said that she told PK that she “couldn’t talk to him” and that he had to “dry up.” After he abstained from alcohol for one week, Dorit said that it “turned into a journey.” The Bravolebrity told fans at the season 13 reunion that her and PK’s relationship was “better than ever,” but Erika was curious about what changed from the time the reunion was filmed to now.
“It’s not one thing,” Dorit continued. “You know, there’s no catastrophic event. No one cheated on anyone. A week ago, there was a moment, and it was over nothing, and one thing led to another and we sat down like two very mature adults who love and care about one another and we mutually decided that taking some space and separating is the best thing for us. We’re taking it day by day, but we are separated. There’s no time on it, but there’s work to do.”
Later in the episode, Dorit turned to Kathy, 65, for support and went into even more detail about the issues in her and PK’s marriage. When Kathy confessed that she felt like Dorit “really loved” PK, she admitted that she did. However, the Beverly Beach founder said that she and PK had chosen not to tell their children about the separation yet.
“We can be doing things as a family, like we’re not in a toxic place,” Dorit explained.
Dorit also revealed that PK was working with a “sober coach,” and Kathy couldn’t hide the surprise on her face.
“Oh, he’s a full blown alcoholic,” Dorit said.
PK also reached out for advice during the episode and he sat down to talk with Mauricio Umansky, who is currently estranged from his wife, Kyle Richards.
“I’ll tell you what happened,” PK told Mauricio, 54. “I got sober. That’s what happened. I got sober; I got clear and I realized we were just taking bites out of each other the whole f–king time. And I had a lot of resentment. Dorit isn’t the most able to listen. She’s not.”
