Ain’t no shame in Sarah Hyland’s game, y’all! The Modern Family star clapped back on Twitter after she got a bit of backlash for wearing not one, but two pairs of Spanx underneath her Oscars afterparty gown on February 24.

The drama all started when the 28-year-old actress posted a few snaps from the event to her Instagram on February 25. “I’m wearing TWO pairs of Spanx,” she captioned the post. “Why diet? When you can just hide it!”

Naturally, some fans and followers really weren’t cool with the message Sarah was seemingly promoting. “As a (thin) person with influence your caption is problematic,” one commenter wrote. “You’re suggesting that women should EITHER diet or hide. How about NEITHER.”

Another commenter was even more blunt: “Sarah, [you’re] not big anyways. Sooo…” Yikes. While we do understand the initial backlash (body positivity for life, yo!), the actress seemingly cleared up her original motives for the post when she retweeted a fan’s reply on the photos on February 26.

“If you’re trying to hide the bump from your transplant, forget it. I’ve been trying for years!! Stay healthy,” the fan originally tweeted, to which Sarah replied, “Someone gets it!”

An hour later, she defended herself against a now-deleted tweet that seemingly called into question her struggles with kidney dysplasia. “When you have two kidney transplants and are on steroids for life get back to me,” she wrote.

The Dirty Dancing actress opened up about her myriad of health struggles, including two kidney transplants and endometriosis, in an incredible interview with SELF magazine back on December 10. She revealed that she had undergone seven surgeries by age 4 and now has had a total of 16 surgeries to date. What a trooper.

“When they do a kidney transplant, they connect the new kidney to your old kidneys in front,” she explained how the surgery gave her a persistent bump in her lower tummy. “I call it my KUPA: kidney upper p—y area. Always have. Will forever,” she said.

Considering Sarah even has a name for her surgery-created problem area, it’s safe to say she wasn’t out to body shame anyone this awards season. In fact, we love the message even more. Hope you get yourself a Spanx partnership, girl.
