If you can recall Adam Gottschalk on this season of The Bachelorette, then you definitely can’t forget his close-to-life-size sidekick of a doll, AJ. Remember when he marched up to Rachel Lindsay, doll in hand, and made her an offer we’re so glad she refused: “Two for the price of one?” Man, people will do anything on this show to get noticed!

Though — SPOILER ALERT! — Adam was eliminated in episode seven of Rachel Lindsay’s season, viewers are still wondering what’s up with this guy. Sidekick doll named Adam Jr. aside, the 27-year-old is actually a pretty cool dude.

The real estate agent hails from Dallas, TX (which is also Rachel’s hometown), where he played college football. He found his way into The Bachelorette house thanks to a friend who thought he’d be perfect for the show.

“One of my good friends from college, Allie Ives, was a fan of the show and really wanted me to go on. She must have just written one hell of an application for me,” Adam tells D Magazine. “In September of last year, I got a call from one of the casting producers saying they’d gotten my application and couldn’t stop laughing and that they needed to meet me.” Keep reading to find out more about one of the most talked-about Bachelorette contestants!

Adam Jr., the doll, wasn’t really his idea.

Immediately, Bachelorette producers were captivated by Adam’s humor. While staying in a hotel room and accompanied by producers, Adam made a mannequin out of pillows, which sparked a gimmick idea.

“Originally, I was going to come out of the limo with a Dallas Cowboys helmet on, but we couldn’t get clearance from the NFL,” Adam says. “Before the show starts, you’re held in a hotel room by yourself with nothing but producers coming in and out. I made this little mannequin with some pillows, which always made the producers laugh. The night before the limo entrances, one producer who knew Rachel well from last season said he had an idea for how I could stand out. At first, I was like, ‘Hell no,’ but he said they would make sure it wouldn’t be like a ventriloquist thing or anything creepy.”

No, not creepy at all. After the powers-that-be gave little AJ life, Adam named him and gradually became more comfortable with the idea. “They got a little mannequin, and took care of giving it multiple outfits throughout the show while it traveled with us. I suggested we call him AJ (for Adam Jr.) When I first saw him, he was dressed in a full three-piece suit,” Adam recalls. “He really started to become the mascot for the show. His fingers were soft so he could grab things. Guys would take shots with him and high five him. I did not know he was going to be French.”

What happened to Adam Jr.?

AJ is still alive and well, guys. Don’t panic. In fact, Adam Jr. is going to a good cause. “Right before I left the show the top six guys signed him in Geneva. I’m heading to Los Angeles this weekend to tape the ‘Men Tell All’ episode, and the rest of the guys are going to sign him there,” Adam reveals. “We’re going to raffle him off for charity.”

Will Adam appear on Bachelor in Paradise?

Yes — we will be seeing Adam in Paradise. Hopefully, he won’t bring AJ. “Now that I’ve been eliminated from the show, I can tell you that yes, I’m going to be on this season,” he told D Magazine.
