Yass! HGTV fans were heartbroken last September when Chip and Joanna Gaines announced that Season 5 of their hit home improvement TV series Fixer Upper would be their last. Since then, the couple has been keeping busy with their own Target line, and they also welcomed their fifth child Crew Gaines in June. But during their appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, they announced that they are ready to return to TV and this time, things will be on their own terms.

“We signed a non-disclosure and it said quote-unquote ‘You can tell your mother, but that’s it,’ so mom, I just wanted to make a quick announcement — we are coming back to television,” Chip, 43, said into the camera. “You’re gonna get to see the kids grow up, you’ll get to see us — maybe a six-month delay like the rest of the world, but we’re excited to be back. Yes!”

Chip explained that he and his wife struggled with juggling their TV show and all of their other work projects, all while trying to be good partners to each other and good parents to their children — which is why they decided to leave HGTV.

“TV’s a tough business, man,” Chip told Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon.  “We came into this whole thing sort of shock and awe. We had never had any inspiration to be on television, we didn’t know anything about the business, so when you step into this universe, it takes you a little bit to get your feet under you — to say the least. I’d say, after five years, we really realized we really want to take a step back and focus on our marriage, focus on our family, and just kind of catch our breath.”

But he went on to reveal that since they will be on their own TV network under the Discovery umbrella, Chip and Joanna, 40, will be able to create their own schedule and really find a work/life balance that works for them.

“I think we’re really going to carve it out in a way that really makes sense to us and our family,” Chip continued. “It’s going to be filmed a lot in Waco, TX so we don’t have to travel a whole lot. So, all things being equal, we could not be more excited.”
